PRAIRIE POST
April 26, 2019
Message from the Principal
The Prairie PTA Puma Palooza is right around the corner. This week we have used riddles to provide hints to a special event that will take place at the Puma Palooza. We will unveil what the special event will be this Monday. Stay tuned and we can not wait to see you at the Puma Palooza next week.
Mother Nature is enjoying the opportunity to play guess what the weather will be today. I heard a rumor that it might actually snow this weekend. With that being said, please make sure that our scholars are dressing for the weather as we want to do everything possible to avoid anyone from becoming ill.
I want to encourage all parents to continue to help us by adhering to our pick-up/drop-off procedures. We have these procedures in place to ensure the safety of every member of our school community.
Have a PAWSOME weekend!

So, search your cupboards high and low and turn in all the Box Tops you can find! The classroom competition is a tight race. Third grade is currently in first place but they are only leading 4K/5K by twelve! Which class will get to have a party with Mr. Griffin?!

School will be extended one day at the end of this year to Monday, June 10, 2019, due to our multiple snow days this year. Click below for the district's message.
Health Room News
Measles is a highly contagious virus that lives in the nose and throat mucus of an infected person. It can spread to others through coughing and sneezing. Also, measles virus can live for up to two hours in an airspace where the infected person coughed or sneezed. If other people breathe the contaminated air or touch the infected surface, then touch their eyes, noses, or mouths, they can become infected. Measles is so contagious that if one person has it, up to 90% of the people close to that person who are not immune will also become infected. Infected people can spread measles to others from four days before through four days after the rash appears."

How can I Help? Increasing my Child’s Emotional-Regulation
May 21, 2019 from 6:00pm-7:30pm
Hawthorne LAB School
1111 Maitland Dr, Waukesha, WI 53188
All parents have experienced tantrums, but when should parents reach out for help? What can parents do to increase their children’s self-control skills and learn effective ways to de-escalate their children.
The Community Mental Health Provider (CMHP), Amanda Rochwite, ATR, LPC of Family Service of Waukesha is preparing three informational sessions for parents or guardians to provide knowledge, support, and useful tools. Each session will be hosted at a School District of Waukesha Elementary School. Parents and Guardians are welcome to attend all three sessions. Refreshments will be provided.
Amanda Rochwite is an art therapist and licensed professional counselor employed through Family Service of Waukesha. Her position is funded by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to provide mental health support in 5 School District of Waukesha elementary schools. Her role is to build and support educator and parent understanding and ability to adapt mental health concepts into useful strategies to effectively reach and teach students influenced by mental health challenges.
Daily Office Procedures/Check In
If you are picking up your child for an appointment, we will call the classroom when you arrive and have the student come to the office. We request that you wait in the lobby for your child to come. Also, if you are dropping off something to be delivered to your child, we will take it in the office and deliver it for you. This avoids the processing of the pass and disruption in your child's classroom.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office. More details on the Raptor check-in system are detailed later in this newsletter.
