Winter Vacation
There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, December 22nd through Tuesday, January 2nd.
School will resume on Wednesday, January 3rd.
Congratulations Mrs. Squires!
We will celebrate Mrs. Squires and other teachers from across the District in January at our Thursday, January 11th Board of Education Meeting at 7:00 PM.
Holiday Sing Along and Classroom Celebrations
Classroom celebrations will follow from 2:30-3:30 PM. Parents may attend classroom celebrations, but please be mindful that parties will end at 3:30 PM in order for us to have a smooth dismissal process.
Please do not park in our Car Rider loop area along the front of the building or on the sides of streets. We will have parking available in our main parking lot and on the blacktop area behind our school. The gates will be open. Thank you for helping us to have a safe, fun afternoon before our winter vacation together with our school family.
Fifth Grade School Spelling Bee
Congratulations to our classroom finalists who will be participating. Our fourth and fifth graders are invited to participate as our audience for this event. Good luck to our fifth grade spellers. Fifth grade parents are welcome to attend as well.
MLK Day Celebration
You Are Invited to the
Walled Lake Schools Community-Wide
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration
on Monday, January 15
The 19th annual Walled Lake Schools community-wide Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration is planned for Monday, January 15, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Walled Lake Northern High School.
The celebration will begin with a multicultural dinner from 5:00 – 6:15 p.m. with food from a wide variety of ethnic restaurants. During the dinner participants will visit student displays from each of our 19 schools focusing on our theme “Building Empathy in Our World: Understanding and Caring for Each Other”. Our dinner is sponsored by generous support from the PTA and PTSA groups from around our district as well as other contributors.
From 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. there will be a program in the auditorium featuring keynote speaker, Caleb White, who is the founder of The Caleb White Project. Caleb will be speaking about this year’s empathy theme, and he will also talk about taking action for Social Justice in today’s world. Several student choirs will perform, students will present their “Express Yourself” projects, and the Walled Lake Schools Friend of Diversity Awards will be presented.
Everyone in the community is invited to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration which is a free program. We are asking everyone to bring a donation of canned food, boxed food, and personal products such as laundry detergent, Kleenex, toilet paper, and shampoo to be donated to the food pantry at Cass Community Social Services in Detroit.
For more information, please contact Alec Bender, co-chairperson of the Walled Lake Schools Diversity Committee, at (248) 956-3432.

Invisible Dad Program
Through the generosity of parent donations and the planning of a few dedicated people, we are thrilled to provide the Invisible Dad lunch program at Dublin Elementary.
Every day, in our own community and in our school, children are faced with a growing form of hunger: food insecurity. Not knowing where their next meal will come from, these children are not only faced with being hungry, studies have also shown these children can face more severe issues in the future. The Invisible Dad program hopes to change that by providing the funds necessary to make sure all children have access to a full meal at lunch.
These funds are not something you or your child have to ask for or apply to receive. These funds are available without question or judgment as children go through the line at lunch. Parents will be notified privately and confidentially if their child’s lunch is paid for by the Invisible Dad. Sometimes the situation is simple and the lunch account just needs to be refilled. We ask that you refill your account and perhaps consider donating back to the program. Sometimes the situation is more complex, the money just isn’t there and won’t be there for some time. In those cases, you and your child will not have to worry again about lunch. The Invisible Dad program will step in and make sure lunch is provided.
Donations can be made by sending cash or a check to school made out to “Walled Lake Food Services” with “Invisible Dad - DUBLIN” in the memo. This is not a tax-deductible donation, this is just money from you to a child in need.
Walled Lake Schools offers free and reduced-cost lunches; the Invisible Dad program aims to solve for the short-term and one-off situations. If you would like to apply for free or reduced-cost lunch, please contact Mr. Drewno.
For more information about this program, visit www.invisibledad.org. Please contact Mr. Drewno, or Julie Rader-Food Services Coordinator (julierader@wlcsd.org) with questions.
