Eisenhower Fly-er
October 29, 2017
Message from the Principal
Last week was Red Ribbon Week at Ike! Thank you very much to all who participated in the daily dress up days. This week is about reinforcing the importance of good decision making.
We focused on the concepts that "I Matter", "Others Matter", and the destructive impact of drugs and alcohol. On Tuesday, we met in the auditorium where Mr. Ralph led a discussion on treating others well and reporting when that is not happening. We talked about "Stop Light" signals that people give and how to read those. At the end of the presentation, student signed a pledge. We will continue to speak of these concepts throughout the year. Below is some information that was shared and some photos from the week.
We added some dress up days for our Spirit Week last week, in part, because we have not traditionally dressed up for Halloween. This year, however, we will have crazy socks day on Tuesday to celebrate Halloween.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Tim Holcombe

Ike Transitions: Student Hygiene Health
We are very proud of the hard work our students are doing as they tackle the various challenges that the transition to our building has offered. Yet another transition that they are encountering is related to hygiene. Their bodies are growing and changing every day—these rapid changes are presenting additional opportunities for them to practice being accountable and taking care of themselves in ways that keep them healthy and successful.
Intensifying these challenges is the fact that succeeding at Eisenhower is hard work! The intense activity at recess and/or Physical Education class in addition to the “rigorous” education that they are experiencing in the classroom creates a distinct opportunity for us to help them to further grow as young people as we address hygiene/personal health.
We would like to work together to help our students develop healthy habits by encouraging them to practice good hygiene including frequent showering, daily face washing, changing clothes and the use of deodorants after recess/PE class. We recommend students keep deodorant in their gym or school locker just in case. We are confident that with consistent reinforcement from school/home these habits will become a solid foundation for a long journey towards personal health!
Other News
- Below is the calendar for 2nd quarter Connections.
- We are fortunate to benefit each year from the generosity of the Old Newsboys. Each year they donate vouchers for both coats and shoes. If your student, or families you know of, is in need, please contact Tim Holcombe at tholcombe@oregoncs.org.
- Please note that we post our weekly Fly-ers on our website. To find them, please go to www.oregoncs.org and click on schools à Eisenhower Intermediate à Eisenhower Highlights (on bottom of page) à Weekly Fly-ers. Our Fly-ers should be posted by each Monday night.
- Part of the learning process here at Eisenhower often involves discipline forms. If your student earns a lunch detention, after-school detention, etc., he/she should bring home the form for your signature. The forms often do not make it back to Mr. Holcombe until well after the consequence is served. If you would like communication on the consequence, please be sure to call the school as written notes on the forms are not often seen right away.
- Please remember that morning drop-off should not be prior to 7:20 and all students must be picked up by 2:40. Thank you for adhering to these times as our supervision is limited to these times.
