Frequently Asked Questions
A: An informational meeting for parents will be held on Monday, March 20th from 6:00-7:00 in the Cockrill Middle School cafeteria. Registration details will be shared during the meeting and registration will open shortly thereafter.
** REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. http://bit.ly/2mG1Ad1
Q: Why are elementary students able to register for 2 sessions but secondary students can only sign up for one session?
A: Younger students have shorter attention spans, therefore we break up the class to allow for snack break and a transition to another session. Remember to sign up for a session 1 and a session 2 class for your campers. *These sessions should be different classes.
Secondary students are able to go into greater depth and really explore their topic at a more complex level by having one longer session.
Q: How can I pay for my child's camp tuition?
A: We are able to accept credit card payments online during registration or you may pay with a check made out to MISD. Registration must be complete and payment received prior to June 3, 2017.
Q: Where will the SCOPE Camp take place?
A: Scholar Camp will be held at Cockrill Middle School. When you register for sessions, you will need to click the drop down menu and select "Cockrill MS" as the camp location.
Q: When is the SCOPE Camp?
A: Scholar Camp will be June 12th-15th, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Q: My child takes medications during the day. Will there be a nurse available to help with this?
A: Yes, a camp nurse will be on site assisting with SCOPE as well as with other summer school classes taking place. In order to allow the nurse to dispense medication to your child, you must complete the authorization forms and provide the medication in an original container in accordance with McKinney ISD policy.
Medication forms can be obtained by visiting the MISD Health Services website:
http://www.mckinneyisd.net/departments/services/health-services/information/
Q: Will snacks be provided?
A: Yes! Each day campers will be provided with fun summery treats. We are planning to provide popsicles, popcorn, etc. If your child has dietary restrictions or simply prefers to bring his or her own snack, that is absolutely acceptable. We want all of the campers to be happy and enjoy these four days.
Q: How will session registration be confirmed?
A: Once the registration process begins, registration will occur solely online. You will be able to register and pay for your child at once, thereby guaranteeing your child's spot. We will also follow up with confirmation emails as the classes begin to fill. In this email we will let you know any course specific details that will effect your child.
Q: Are class sizes limited?
A: Yes. In order to best meet the needs of our campers and provide them with the attention they deserve, class sizes will be limited. Most classes will have 18-20 students.
Q: Will there be a waiting list?
A: Waiting lists have been automatically enabled so that once a class has reached capacity, you will have the option of being placed on the waiting list for that particular class, should a spot become available.
Q: How will drop off and pick up work?
A: More information regarding drop off and pick up will be emailed to participating families. Sessions will be slightly staggered in order to assist with the parking at Cockrill Middle School.
