Questions to Ponder
We are going to ponder these questions during our Leadership Academy on August 14th. Be ready to share your thoughts.
- If you were to design the Summit, what would you be sure to include?
Feel free to share your ideas on our School Leadership Yammer page.
Cheers to You!
- I am cheering for Brandi Maynard and Darren Reed from the iLead Team for their passion and dedication to leadership development.
- I'm cheering for K12 Head of Schools and the K12 Academic, Marketing and Operations support groups who collectively dedicate their time and energy to make the learning experience better for students across America. Go K12 Team!
- I'm cheering for Caroline Macintosh and the entire Nevada Virtual Academy Team for a win for kids in the area of technology. They had a visit from Nevada State Senator Becky Harris last Friday. The entire staff was Suited and Booted (Principal Orlando’s term) and ready to talk education legislation and give his/her own elevator speech for NVVA. Christopher provided the robot demonstration for Senator Harris too. She finally admitted that she had no idea what he was talking about when he was explaining how he has learned coding at NVVA. Read more about thing two and robotics at Nevada Virtual. Way to go Caroline, Orlando, and the entire team. Also check out the graduation video the team put together to highlight the festivities.
- I'm cheering for hot summer nights because the annual Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak Wednesday and Thursday night this week, giving amateur skywatchers with clear dark skies a potentially dazzling celestial light show.
We would like to highlight your Cheers in the next HOS Highlights newsletter. Please submit your cheers here.

Leadership Academy #2: Explore "U"! August 14, 2015
Overview
YOU are the focus of Leadership Academy #1 entitled, Explore "U". Throughout the first seven weeks we will focus on your strengths as indicated in the Myers-Briggs assessment most of you took in January, 2015. Throughout the cycle you will build upon your strengths and learn to leverage those strengths to minimize weaknesses.
Week 2 of Explore “U” Leadership Academy cycle focuses on deeper aspects of MBTI. You practice applying your knowledge of type to a problem between two people. Your team provides solutions to a case study of a typical incident where type differences are interpreted as performance problems.
Leadership Project
You will have a short but meaningful leadership project for Explore 'U". The first project focuses on your strengths-based leadership mantra. In 140 characters or less, you will sum up who you are as a leader with an emphasis on your unique strengths. Choose keywords from your MBTI inventory to build your leadership mantra. An example mantra is:
- I influence uniquely brilliant people through infectious enthusiasm, grounded in ingenuity, and powered by true grit.
We will share this mantra with the small group during Week 3 and then again with a larger group during Week 6. The goal of this project is for each HOS to have a "tweetable"-sized mantra that sums up who you are as a leader. Feel free to take this project to the next level and make your mantra come alive! (i.e. iMOVIE, Prezi, Infographic, etc).
Meyers Briggs Profile
Important: If you do not remember your Meyers Briggs profile, please reach out to Tom DiGiovanni and he will share that information.

2015-2016 Leadership Standards and Practices
Leadership Academy #1- "Explore U": YOU are the focus of Leadership Academy #1 entitled, Explore "U". Throughout the first seven weeks we will focus on your strengths as indicated in the Myers-Briggs assessment most of you took in January, 2015. Throughout the cycle you will build upon your strengths and learn to leverage those strengths to minimize weaknesses.
Leadership Academy #2- "Build It and They Will Come": Your knowledge and expertise will be leveraged to build out content for one of the leadership strands. Each School leader chooses one standard to work with over the course of the 7 week cycle. The goal will be to codify your expertise within the leadership strand to build a complete leadership Academy cycle in your area chosen area.
Leadership Academies #3-5-: Once the content is built, you will choose one strand to focus on for the remaining cycles. Choice is built into the process and we would like you to choose two standards. We suggest you work with your RVP/DRVP to choose one leadership strand that you would like additional support in. The strands include: Strategic Leadership, Instructional Leadership, Community, Human Resources, and Organizational Management.
