NEW SCHOOL ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR CURRENT 6TH AND 11TH GRADERS
Before incoming 7th and 12th grade students can begin school in the fall (2019-2020 school year), they must meet the new mandatory state meningococcal vaccination requirement. STUDENTS WITHOUT PROOF OF VACCINATION, OR A STATE EXEMPTION, WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND CLASSES IN THE FALL.
The state immunization rules require: Students entering 7th grade (if born after September 15, 2004) – 1 dose of meningococcal vaccine received on or after age of 10 – a booster dose will be needed at age 16. In addition, all incoming 7th graders need proof of receiving the Tdap Vaccine. The Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster vaccination has been required by the state for school attendance since the 2013/14 school year.
If you do not have a primary healthcare provider please contact your school nurse for assistance, our district’s Metro Care Connection school based health clinics at 319-558-2481 or Linn County Public Health at 319-892-6000.
Students entering 12th grade (if born after September 15, 1999) – 2 doses of meningococcal vaccines, or one dose if a dose was received when student was 16 years of age or older.
