Perry High School
Newsletter #13 (11/25/19)
Message from the Principal
With the Thanksgiving Break just around the corner, we may have a short week yet it is filled with an abundance of activities and another opportunity to recognize our successes.
Seeing the students bring in an assortment of items related to the Thanksgiving Food Drive or the "Angel Tree" that is located in our cafeteria are certainly heartwarming gestures as we reach out to those in need during this upcoming holiday season. These are simply two ways, yet there are many others involving our amazing student groups that are going on "behind the scenes" to support families in our community.
These humbling gestures of gratitude are inspirational and we hope, that in some small way, they bring a smile to everyone involved. On behalf of the PHS staff and student body, we'd like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Go Panthers!!!
"Harvey" a Huge Success
Congratulations is extended to the Cast and Crew of “Harvey” on two amazing weekend performances. A tremendous amount of preparation went into the shows to the delight of those in attendance. We have a strong Theatre program at PHS with a tremendous amount of talent - both on and off stage - that make each performance memorable. Well done to everyone!
The Perry Players would like to thank everyone who attended and look forward to your continued support as they move into the spring season.
PHS Semester Exam Schedule
This year, semester exams occur December 18-20, 2019 (Wednesday-Friday). The semester exam dates are not an “open campus”. Either an exam or classes being taught will be occurring within the time blocks. If students have a semester class where the exam will not occur until January, instruction will still be taking place. Therefore, all students are required to be in attendance beginning at 7:30 AM.
This means that students will not be allowed to leave until the scheduled exam time is complete. There is no exception to this requirement. In the event that a study hall is scheduled at any point of the semester exam schedule, students are expected to be in attendance for this academic setting and use the time wisely to prepare for exams or any school assignments that may be given. With this in mind, students are encouraged to stay until 2:15 PM yet are permitted to leave school after 11:40 AM if need be. Please understand that school transportation will only be provided at the end of the school day (2:15 PM).
For reference, the semester exam schedule is attached to this week's emailed newsletter.
The Polar Express comes to PHS
On Monday, December 16 and Tuesday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m., please join us for an evening of seasonal music featuring our six choirs, a live pit orchestra, elves, cookies, hot chocolate dancers, The Polar Express read by Louie Mattachione, and even a special guest or two. Children are our guests on this trip to the North Pole and they're welcome to come dressed in their pajamas; after the concert, we invite all our guests to join us in the "dining car" for treats and a special gift for the kids. It's a fun evening that has become a Perry tradition--so don't miss out!
Tickets are being sold for $7/ticket and are currently available for both nights. An order form is attached to this week's emailed newsletter. We look forward to celebrating the season with everyone while showcasing the amazing talents of our vocal music program.
District Announces Bond Issue for March 2020 Ballot
Through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), Perry Local would receive an additional $80 million to construct a new middle school and to renovate Perry High School. This second phase would come at no additional cost to the community. The Perry Local School District decided to move forward with this new facilities plan because of its eligibility to receive state-contributed funds. The plan was based on recommendations from the Building Advisory Committee, which met 12 times to discuss the issue, as well as input from the community. The district held four focus groups and received more than 1,300 online survey responses.
