Inquiring Minds Want to Know
Eagle Academy Families,
The Academic Policy Board (APB) is attending a strategic planning session for the school at the end of the month. This is important to help with the long-term planning for Eagle Academy. We are interested in parent input to bring feedback from our school community with us to this session.
Below is a link to a Google Survey with questions to help us collect parent input. Most questions are open-ended, so please share anything that comes to mind. The survey is anonymous and confidential, and will be open through Tuesday, 1/28.
Thank you for taking the time to help. We appreciate and value your feedback.

CLIMATE & CONNECTEDNESS SURVEY
The Anchorage School District is partnering with the Association of Alaska School Boards to conduct the School Climate and Connectedness Survey ©, a statewide survey for students, staff, and families. This survey measures their perceptions of each school’s climate including the engagement of students, staff, and families.
The Student Survey will be given to students in grades 3-6 during the week(s) of January 27 – February 7. Students will complete the survey online in class at school. The student survey will ask questions such as how students feel about school rules, their perceptions of how students treat each other, their relationships with staff, social and emotional skills, and observed risk behaviors of other students at school and school events. There are different surveys for younger students (grades 3-5) and older students (grades 6-12).
We also value input from our families. You are an important partner as we work to continually improve each school’s environment. Each parent/guardian is asked to complete one survey during the same two week window (January 27 – February 7). If you have more than one child attending this school, you only need to fill out one survey. You can access the survey via the following websites: surveys.panoramaed.com/aasb or https://goo.gl/Enqoi2. Then enter the code: eagleacademyfamily
All of these surveys are voluntary, anonymous, confidential, and do not ask questions about students’ families. If you do not wish for your child to participate, please notify the school in writing or email by Friday, January 24th.
Results from this survey will be used to identify student, staff and family perceptions of school climate issues within our school(s). School staff use the results to inform their efforts to ensure schools are safe, supportive, and caring places for all students.
Thank you for your cooperation in this year’s School Climate and Connectedness Survey©.

It's Cold Outside - Winter Gloves Needed
We have had so many students forgetting gloves that we are short on loaner gloves. With the weather as cold as it has been, once we no longer have insulated loaner gloves to hand out, we have to send students to sit in the lunchroom during recess.
We would really appreciate it if you could please make sure *DAILY* that your student(s) have ALL of their winter gear before you leave your house in the morning. They are required to have hats and gloves as well as coats, pants and boots.
Thanks so much, in advance, for taking an extra minute in the morning to verify your student(s) are fully prepared for our beautiful Alaska winter weather. We appreciate your extra effort!

Policy Change Consideration
The Academic Policy Board is considering a policy change regarding staff dress code. The change would revise language found on page 18 of the Policies & Procedures Manual regarding staff dress code to the following (highlighted portion is the revision):
- Eagle Academy Charter School employees (including substitutes) are expected to model professionalism at all times and to dress in a manner that enhances the school's public image. The public must be able to differentiate between students and the school staff. Staff shall adhere to all dress and grooming policies during regular school business hours.
A change in policy requires it to be put out as public notice to allow input from the school community. Input can be given by attending our next meeting (Feb. 4th, 5:45 pm) and sharing during public comment, or can be given by emailing an APB member and asking it to be shared at the next meeting.
Academic Policy Board Open Seat
The Eagle Academy Academic Policy Board (APB) is accepting applications to fill our vacant Parent Member position – Seat E.
Being a charter school, we have the unique opportunity to have our own governing body, which is the Academic Policy Board. The Academic Policy Board is responsible for creating school policy, approving and monitoring the school's budget, setting and monitoring goals for the program, selecting curriculum that aligns with EACS standards, overseeing the implementation of Eagle Academy's program, ensuring adherence to the school's charter and policies, hiring/evaluating/supervising the principal, and participating in staff interviews - all in accordance with the school's Charter and Bylaws.
The Academic Policy Board consists of seven (7) members: four parents, one community member at large and two teachers of Eagle Academy. The parent positions must be filled by parents of students currently attending Eagle Academy and may not be filled by teachers, permanent staff members, or long-term temporary staff members of Eagle Academy. The community member may be a parent or classified employee but may not be a certificated staff member.
Please see the attached application for more details. If interested, please return the application in a sealed envelope to the front office by Friday, 1/31.
