LOST & FOUND
We have already had the pile of clothes stacking up from items that have been left outside during recess or forgotten in the lunchroom, outside the classroom, etc. Please ask your child to stop by the lost and found table (outside the bathrooms by the gym) to check if they are missing any items. It really helps if we can keep this pile to a small mountain! Thanks for your help!
YOUNG AUTHORS CONTEST
Here’s a wonderful opportunity for talented writers. Students in grades three through five are encouraged to enter the YOUNG AUTHORS CONTEST, which is sponsored by the Gifted and Talented Department. All classroom teachers have information about how to enter the contest, and deadline dates.
There are four categories to enter, and two winners at each grade level in each category will be selected and invited to attend a Young Authors Conference, which is a day-long conference held at the University of Wisconsin, Sauk County/ Baraboo Campus.
The deadline for submitting entries for district judging is January 31, so students wishing to enter should make sure their entries are turned in to their classroom teacher by January 26.
Expiring School Meal Benefits
Meal and/or Milk benefits expired after 30 days of operating school days. If you have not received a letter stating you are eligible for Free or Reduce benefits, please fill out a F/R application as soon as possible. Applications are available at each school, the District Office or online at www.saukprairieschools.org . Please call Tammy at 643-5983 or email tammy.smith@saukprairieschools.org with any questions.
INJURY/ACCIDENT FORMS
AFTERSCHOOL TRANSPORTATION
If your child will have a change regarding someone picking them up, they are biking or walking home, the information can be sent in on a separate note or put in their assignment notebook. We do not need the dismissal change/bus request form filled out for these changes.
If you have questions, please contact the office. Thank you.
GUIDANCE INFO
Counselor Connection
Third graders will participate in three lessons on the topic of communication. The lessons focus on the problems nonverbal and verbal communication can cause. Through these lessons, we will talk about sharing our feelings nonverbally and verbally, so that we don’t cause conflicts with friends. We will also learn about using an I-statement to let others know how we are feeling.
Students in 4th grade will be discussing creative problem solving in a variety of situations. We will review respecting the perspective of others, demonstrating “I-care” listening, using I-statements, and compromising.
5th graders will be learning about the 6 Errors in Thinking, and how their thinking affects their feelings and decision making. We will review the three decision making styles and how assertiveness can be used to make an above the line decision, especially in peer pressure situations.
Ponder Parenting
· Can you encourage your children without attaching too much importance to the outcome? Can you attend your child’s game or contest and cheer for every good play and every good effort of all players on both sides? Can you encourage anyone, on either side, who makes a mistake? Does this seem unnatural? Impossible? Try it. You will thoroughly enjoy the game and teach your child a wonderful truth. (Martin, William; The Parent’s Tao Te Ching: A New Interpretation, 1999)
E-mail Miss Sadie if you have thoughts or questions about how to accomplish this task.

On days when school is closed, those employees who work when students are in attendance (teachers, aides, etc.) will not be expected to report. Twelve-month employees and administrators will be expected to report as soon as possible.
If a school is closed for reasons other than weather, the day may not be made up. If this is the case, that would be included in the announcement of the closing and teachers would possibly be asked to report to another school for the day. Examples of this type of closing might be by the health official or because of lack of heat or light in the school.

MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
For example, if your child suffers from migraine headaches, we will NOT be able to distribute medication to him/her without an AMA on file. The AMA form can be found on the District web site. In order for medications to be distributed, pills must be in a prescription bottle with proper labeling. Students may carry inhalers with them, however, an AMA form must be on file in the office.
If you have any questions regarding medication distribution, please contact Laura Cody, RN for the district at 643-5509.
