BCSSSD names Dr. Christopher Nagy as Superintendent of Schools
A Message Mr. Joe Miller, ESU Director
Dear Friends,
I am very happy to have the opportunity to introduce myself to the home and school family at BCSSSD. Since September, 2015, I have served as Director of the Educational Services Unit, after having spent the past 46 years as a professional educator in various Burlington County school districts. While BCSSSD provides an excellent program option for children with special needs throughout our region, the ESU is a valuable partner in addressing the needs of classified children in all of the public, private and parochial schools in the county.
Classified students at BCSSSD and in every other district require a variety of related or supplemental services in order to help them achieve the annual goals and objectives in their IEP’s. These are what ESU provides. Examples of these related services include those of Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech & Language Therapists, ESL, Basic Skills, Supplemental, Nursing, Teachers of the Deaf, Educational Interpreters, American Sign Language instructors, Assistive Technology, Job Coaches, Transition Services, Psychologists, Learning Disability Teacher/Consultants, Social Workers, Counselors and Home Instructors.
Additionally, ESU provides opportunities throughout the year for staff members from all of the public and non-public districts to attend a wide variety of professional development seminars to hone their professional skills. Similarly, ESU maintains a cadre of trained responders as members of the Burlington County School Crisis Response Team, whose members are dispatched to any district experiencing an emergency or sudden loss of a student or staff member. The Team assists the districts in dealing with the many necessities required to return the district to status quo after a tragedy.
Since 1997, ESU has enjoyed its unique relationship with BCSSSD in order to provide the citizens of our county with an educational program and support services which make us a shining example for other counties to emulate. It is my honor and privilege to be a part of it.
Mr. Joe Miller
