ORES Staff Spotlight
JANUARY 2024
The Otter River MHST team is starting a mini, monthly newsletter focused on getting to know our school staff a little better. In the coming months, we will highlight a few fresh faces who are new to ORES this year as well as provide a brief "tip of the month" focused on health and wellness. Please feel free to send a shout-out or some encouragement to our featured staff person...We want them to know how glad we are to have them as part of our school family!
Jacob Heidorn, P.E. Teacher
I have worked at Otter River for about 5 Months.
Have you always worked in education? If so, for how long?
I have worked as a physical education teacher for 6 years after graduating from Liberty University.
Tell us a little about your family and/or life outside of work.
I live in Bedford county with my wife Katie, 3 kids (Caroline, Benjamin, Nathan), and our dog Lady.
What are a few of your hobbies, likes, or interests?
Some of my hobbies include playing outside with my kids, building stuff, running with my dog, and watching sports (mostly football).
What is your favorite thing about working at ORES?
My favorite thing about working at ORES is how everyone knows and looks out for each other. I love seeing 5th and 4th graders looking out for their younger siblings and friends. I love to see everyone walking down the halls to breakfast each morning and giving everyone high fives. It is a really great place to work and teach and I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone here at ORES.
Wellness Tip of the Month
Did you know that one of the fastest ways to reduce a tension headache is to simply unclench your jaw? One small thing we can do to have a more positive and less-stressed day is to well, unclench! Simply drop your lower teeth from your upper teeth, keeping a slight space in between. Drop your shoulders, and breathe one deep breath in through your nose and one long slow breath out through your mouth. By doing this you can better relax, breathe deep, and hit the reset button.
