CCSD Earns Top Marks
The Clarke County School District’s Department of Finance and Business Services was recently awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellent Financial Reporting by the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts. This is no small feat. In fact, this is the first time the CCSD has earned the award since its inception in 2013.
It’s a testament to the district’s commitment to strong financial controls, responsible budgeting, and sound accounting practices. Thanks to everyone in our finance department! We always knew we could count on you. Now we have proof positive! Pictured is CCSD CFO Byron Schueneman receiving the award from audit managers from the Ga. Dept. of Audits.
CCSD Ranks High in Equity
WUGA is reporting that the personal finance website WalletHub has ranked the Clarke County School District as the seventh most equitable county in Georgia. Overall, the Peach State is recognized as having the 15th most equitable school district in the US. The report determined rankings largely by measuring average household income and expenditures for public elementary and secondary schools per pupil.
A WalletHub analyst noted that “Having equity in schools basically helps put kids on a level playing field. It means that they can learn at the same levels, it means that dropout rates could level out, it means that median weekly earnings, people down the line, could level out as well. Job prospects get better, just more fair outcomes for everyone.” See the story and access the full report at: https://tinyurl.com/EquityReportWUGA.

Help Shape Youth Opportunities in Athens
The Clarke County School District and the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government are currently exploring opportunities to collaborate and expand impactful programs for youth in Athens. Both agencies believe that increasing youth development opportunities locally will further help meet the basic physical, developmental, and social needs of our children and teens, which will help them build the skills needed to become successful adults. Some examples include: Job training, athletic fields and courts, community and youth centers, mentorship, libraries, college access, career exploration programs, workforce development, and special programs.
If you believe any of these ideas should be further explored, please list them, and tell us why. Do you have other ideas? Please list them. We want to know! Click here to submit the survey. Don't wait: Survey closes at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17.
