Complete High School Maize
February 2023
A Note from Principal Hilliard
Hello Wolfpack!!
October snuck up on me! It was so great to see all of you at conferences; thank you for taking the time out of your day to come and hear how your child is doing! Because of you, we continue our 100% attendance rate. Thank you also for signing up to be a part of Site Council and to help with our Halloween party. We are able to do great things because of your support!!
As you know, we have had so many things going on at CHSM. One of the best things so far is that we had our first graduation last week! Congratulations to Connor for being our first graduation. We are looking forward to the graduation of Alex this week and Blake in a couple of weeks. Great job to all of our graduates. Also, we celebrated four complete citizens in September: Emma, My'Alyssa-Belle, Brooke and Shayla! Great job!!
Attendance beginning next 9 weeks! Our school goal for all students is for students to remain under 930 minutes of non-productive time! This is equivalent to missing 2 days of school. Students may earn back time by coming to Build Your Bank on the Fridays it is in session. If you know you will be gone for an appointment or another obligation...plan ahead and come in before your absence. I KNOW we can reach this goal!!
Time resets at the beginning of the new 9 weeks! October 17 is a fresh start for everyone!!!
A few important reminders for October:
-Contracts are due Thursday, October 5 if students want to participate in the "if done, don't come week" October 9-13.
-October 9-13 - "If done, don't come week" If 2 contracts are completed in each block class, students do not have to be at school this week. They MUST have a signed permission form.
-3 contracts must be completed by 4:15 on Thursday, October 12 to remain a student at CHSM.
-October 5 or during BYB October 6 - Please turn in fundraiser money! We really want to have 100% participation. We ask that everyone sell at least $50.00 worth!
-Adam will begin spring enrollment for students interested in WSUTech classes - ask your child about it!
-October 17 - First day of the new 9 weeks! Look for the "Refrigeration Information Station" paper - this paper tells you what classes your child has and how to contact their teacher! When you receive it, please email your child's block 1 teacher to let them know!
-October 31!!! Halloween Party! Many of our parents are hard at work on the Halloween party that parents put on for us! They are planning such fun things! The party should run from 12:30-3p (these times are subject to change). We do allow students to dress up and we "trick or treat' at ESC next door. Please be sure costumes are school appropriate. Please email Liz - eshetler@usd266.com or Sheryl - stillery@usd266.com if you would like to help with the party and weren't able to sign up previously.
As always, thank you for your continued support and for letting us be a part of your child's life!
Michelle
Thanks,
Michelle

Reaching Students Across the World
The students of CHSM have been given a unique opportunity to experience a cross-cultural exchange. A Wichita woman, Morgan Shetler, currently teaching in a school in Eswatini, Africa through the Peace Corps has invited our students to be a part of her classroom.
Students at CHSM have been using Zoom to communicate and learn about their virtual classmates. While building these relationships our students at CHSM have been compelled to raise money for a community center that will provide many opportunities for these students that they would not have otherwise. The center is designed to provide education on technical skills and a safe place for the students to be outside of school. The Peace Corps has applied for a grant to pay for some of the projects. However, more than this will be needed to bring the project to completion.
For this reason, the students of CHSM are starting a project to collect donations to help fund this project. Due to the unique one-on-one interactions our students are having with Eswatini students, they will be able to see the benefits of these donations. 100 percent of these donations will go directly to the completion of the center.
If you would like to be involved with bettering education across the world, our students are accepting and organizing donations to do just that. You make donations directly to CHSM and our students will get it to the students of Eswatini. All donations should be labeled for The Eswatini project.
Thank you for your support.
