Counselor Connection
In September, all classrooms started their first few Life Skills lessons. New this year, I will be in every classroom each week; however, I will only conduct lessons 15 times (approximately every other week). Each lesson will be 45 minutes. The other weeks I will be present to help the teacher and/or students.
In their first unit, third graders are discussing how to make and keep friends by reviewing things that help or hurt friendships, and the “Stop, Opt, GO” tool they can use to calm themselves before making a choice. Fourth graders are focusing on characteristics of a good teammate and how to fill others’ buckets, so that they are able to cooperate with anyone in group situations. Fifth graders are learning three main things to consider when making decisions, and how to respectfully make decisions without losing friends by using an assertive decision making style.
At the end of October the second unit will begin. Third graders will start a discussion about how verbal and nonverbal communication can help or hurt friendships. Fourth graders will talk about how to solve problems with peers or in groups by trying to understand others’ perspective. Fifth graders will continue to discuss decision making, but will include an in depth discussion about errors in thinking, and how they relate to positive and negative peer pressure situations.
Lunch time groups for students who are new to Sauk Prairie School District have begun at every grade level. WIN groups have also started and will focus on GRIT at third grade, cooperation at 4th grade, and healthy choices at 5th grade.

ATTENDANCE
When you call your child in with an illness, we would like you to please let us know your child's first and last name, teacher's name, the symptom/symptoms, i.e., a fever, sore throat, headache, cough, etc., that your child may have, and a phone number that you can be reached in case we have any questions.
BUS INFO
The transportation of students is an essential function of the Sauk Prairie School District provided through a partnership with Lamers Bus Lines. Here is what you need to know about requesting dismissal changes for your child:
All mid-day/4K and dismissal bus changes need to be directed to your child’s school. Please do not contact Lamers for these changes, as each school is responsible for tracking their students’ dismissals. The school is responsible for communicating any changes to Lamers.
If your child rides the bus to school in the morning and there is a change in plans, please contact Lamers directly at 460-7050. School staff is not available to respond to your change requests until 7:00 AM, which is after the morning buses have started their routes.
If a student will need to ride a bus on a day they are generally not scheduled to ride, the Bus Request Form needs to be completed by a parent/guardian. The form is available on the SPSD website at the link entitled Bus Request Form.
The bus request form applies to all students in all grades (4K - 12th Grade). If your child does not have this form to hand to the bus driver, they will not be allowed to ride on the bus.
If your child’s dismissal change does not include a bus, there is no need to complete the bus request form.
There should be one form completed per child who needs to ride the bus. Please do not list siblings on the same form.
If your child attends elementary school, you may send a separate note with your child or call your child’s school to request other dismissal changes (i.e., requests to pick up your child or for your child to attend After School Club).
If your child attends the Sauk Prairie Middle School or Sauk Prairie High School, additional notes or calls regarding non-bus dismissal changes are not required. Only requests to ride buses are tracked at these grade levels.
Thank you for your assistance to ensure your child has a safe plan for dismissal each day. If you have additional questions or concerns about your child’s dismissal plan, please contact your child’s school or the Sauk Prairie School District at 608-643-5982.

MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
For example, if your child suffers from migraine headaches, we will NOT be able to distribute medication to him/her without an AMA on file. The AMA form can be found on the District web site. In order for medications to be distributed, pills must be in a prescription bottle with proper labeling. Students may carry inhalers with them, however, an AMA form must be on file in the office.
If you have any questions regarding medication distribution, please contact Katie Homar, RN for the district at 643-1965.
LOST & FOUND
We have already had the pile of clothes stacking up from items that have been left outside during recess or forgotten in the lunchroom, outside the classroom, etc. Please ask your child to stop by the lost and found table (outside the bathrooms by the gym) to check if they are missing any items. It really helps if we can keep this pile to a small mountain! Thanks for your help!
