- On October 2nd we will move into a smaller work group to collaborate with a subject area expert and a small group of your colleagues to really unpack that standard and codify your collective expertise. Action Item: Read through the Leadership Academy content and curriculum document and determine which standard you feel is your greatest strength. Then, fill out the form below so we can begin forming your groups. Please complete this form no later than September 18th.
Head of School in the Spotlight
Kelly Edginton
School: Idaho virtual Academy
Began: August 2004 (August 2002 with IDVA)
Superpower: Remaining calm while watching my 3 boys perform death defying feats time and time again!
Fun fact: I was a competitive gymnast when I was a kid and still did back handsprings up until after my last child was born. I haven't tried for a while, but I think it's time.......
Advice To Leaders: Set a rule in Outlook to put a one minute delay on your outgoing email. I've had this rule applied to mine for years, and I am constantly happy that it's there!

Questions to Ponder
HOS are routinely asked to where two hats as one, K12 employee, and two, as staff to the MPS Board:
- What strategies do you employ to maintain a positive relationship with your school's board?
- How often do you communicate the values of partnering with K12 to the MPS Board?
Feel free to share your ideas on our School Leadership Yammer page.

Enrollment Tips and Tricks- Week 2 of 5
Working Hand in Hand With Your Enrollment Team
This week’s enrollment best practice is to keep track of your current pipeline in Totalview Enrollment. Our goal is to convert enrolling families, so they can start on time and successfully!
Here are some things to think about, when it comes to enrolling families who are not yet approved:
· Does your school review Special Education documents? It is important to ensure these students don’t “sit” for too long without being reviewed. Remember, some special education students have siblings that are in general education courses. Parents often call enrollment to ask why one sibling has been approved, but the other has not.
· Look for trends like students that are sitting sufficient for too long (more than 48 hours) and are not yet approved. Review the account -- would there be any valid reasons as to why? If not, be sure to connect with your Enrollment Services Manager (ESM) if they haven’t alerted you first!
· Never be too shy to alert your Enrollment Services Manager (ESM) if you see anything “off” with an account. Your ESM is your personal enrollment resource, so don’t hesitate to reach out to them!
Best wishes for a successful school start!

2015/16 Leadership Academy Content and Focus
2015-2016 Leadership Standards and Practices
Leadership Academy #1- "Explore U": YOU are the focus of Leadership Academy #1 entitled, Explore "U". Throughout the first seven weeks we will focus on your strengths as indicated in the Myers-Briggs assessment most of you took in January, 2015. Throughout the cycle you will build upon your strengths and learn to leverage those strengths to minimize weaknesses.
Leadership Academy #2- "Build It and They Will Come": Your knowledge and expertise will be leveraged to build out content for one of the leadership strands. Each School leader chooses one standard to work with over the course of the 7 week cycle. The goal will be to codify your expertise within the leadership strand to build a complete leadership Academy cycle in your area chosen area.
Leadership Academies #3-5-: Once the content is built, you will choose one strand to focus on for the remaining cycles. Choice is built into the process and we would like you to choose two standards. We suggest you work with your RVP/DRVP to choose one leadership strand that you would like additional support in. The strands include: Strategic Leadership, Instructional Leadership, Community, Human Resources, and Organizational Management.
