The Scoop on 4th Grade
with Miss Lejsner, Mrs. Napoleoni and Mrs. Smith
August 24th, 2018
Dear 4th grade parents,
Thank you all for coming to Meet the Teacher on Tuesday morning! It was great to kick off the school year by meeting so many of you. We strongly believe in open lines of communication between parent, teacher, student, and school. Communication is crucial in supporting your child, so feel free to contact us. Email is the best way to reach us, but we are also available to schedule a conference with you and your child if the need arises. We really appreciate your promptness in completing all of the forms that went home this week and making sure your child came to school well rested. Your children are amazing and so are all of you!
Curriculum Corner
Reading & Writing
We are off to a great start in fourth grade! This past week all of the children seem to be enjoying their time here! Our focus has been on building our classroom communities and getting into the daily routines of school.
Our classrooms have also spent time reviewing the expectations through our school wide behavior program called PBIS. Our classes have already earned lots of cubs cash. It is so exciting to see them use proper behavior and be role models to the younger students.
Daily independent reading is the best way for students to continue to grow as readers and learners. Next week we will be sending home a WEB calendar, to record all of their wonderful reading minutes.
Math
To help us get to know all the members of our fourth grade team, the students completed a "figure me out" page using only numbers and answered questions about themselves. Each child will have a chance to be in the spotlight and share some things that make them special. It is such a great experience for all the kids and an important step in building our classroom communities. We look forward to hearing them share some fun facts on next week.
We started our math unit today, please expect your child to have some form of math homework to complete every evening. You can help support your student in fact practice throughout the year. We started this week with addition.
Science/Social Studies
Throughout the school year, we will be moving back and forth between science and social studies. We will start science by learning about food chains and webs. The culminating activity of this unit will be owl pellet dissections and meeting an owl. There will be a test on food chains at the end of the unit.
