The gingerbread man can!
Mrs. Flo's kindergarteners each made a gingerbread man who helped them learn about colors, counting, and verbs. The gingerbread man can jump! He can smile! He can dance!
Mr. Gingerbread was also part of a game the kindergarteners played outside.
MYSTERY STUDENT
Who is the mysterious student behind the snowflake he/she cut out? See answer below.
Please welcome MEA’s newest staff member!
We are excited to announce that teacher Eric Nielsen is the newest edition to the MEA staff. He has been teaching for many years in San Diego at many grade levels ranging from elementary to college with an emphasis in technology integration. He is an extremely accomplished and versatile teacher, with experience in many content areas, including English Language Arts, multimedia, music production, and engineering. In addition, he is co-owner of a website design and marketing firm and plays guitar in a touring band. We are confident that his many talents will find a home here at Mt. Everest! To ensure that Mr. Nielsen’s transition here is as smooth as possible he will be learning our system and co-teaching classes until the end of the semester. Beginning second semester in early February, he will be teaching 7th grade math, 8th grade history, 8th grade English Language Arts, and assisting with ASB, among other duties. So be sure to warmly welcome Mr. Nielsen!
Save the Date!
The MEA Annual Talent Show and Silent Auction is scheduled for Thursday, April 13, 2017. We are in need of parent volunteers to ensure this event is a success! Adira Rosen, current MEA senior and MEA theatre Director has graciously offered to organize the show. However, we need a parent who is willing to help run the show in future years to be her “apprentice” this year since she is graduating (sniff, sniff). We also need parents to help with set up and breakdown. If you are interested in helping in any capacity or have further questions, please email Principal Browne at cbrowne@sandi.net. (Remember, the show can’t go on without the help of volunteers!)
Elementary Students on Campus
To parents of elementary students,
Students in grades K-5 are supervised when they are in study groups and PALS. Any other time elementary students are on campus, they need to be supervised by a parent or family member. They should not be left on their own to go from one extracurricular activity to another. Please plan for your child's supervision, so they can enjoy all the wonderful activities and friendships that are available here on campus.
The Geometry of Snowflakes
Mrs. Browne's mother, our guest instructor, taught students how to make snowflakes. Students also learned about the science and math behind snowflakes.
What makes an orange float?
In Mr. Huy’s 8th grade science class, students tested density and buoyancy: what happens when an orange is put into water with its peel still on (it will float), and what happens when the peel is taken off and put in the water (it will sink). Students had to figure out how to make the water more dense (add salt to the water), to make the sunken orange without the peel float again.
