June 7-11; Last Week of School Year; 6th Grade Graduation
Safe, Responsible, & Kind...
Dear Grant Wood Parents & Families:
We've reached the last week of this very unique 2020-21 school year. Again, I thank you, our students, and our staff for your resilience and perseverance. We are proud of each of our students. This school year presented us with a high frequency of change and need for adaptability, but it also presented all of us with many opportunities for growth and an array of learning experiences.
We are especially proud of our 6th graders who will be transitioning to the next chapter within their educational journey - transitioning to Junior High (i.e. 7th grade). I envision many more successes in your futures. We hope you never forget your Wildcat strength, and the power of the Wildcat Way: being Safe, Responsible, and Kind.

ICCSD note Re: Vaccines for 12+ year olds
ICCSD email dated May 13th, 2021:
As of May 13th, children ages 12 and older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine following the Food and Drug Administration’s authorization of the Pfizer vaccine for emergency use in this younger age group. This is the only COVID-19 vaccine available to children at this time. Through our partnership with Johnson County Public Health (JCPH), we are providing information to families on how eligible children can receive the vaccine. We would also like to provide resources for those who wish to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine and children.
If you or your eligible family members would like to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, below are local resources for scheduling an appointment:
- UI Health Care Online Vaccine Scheduling: https://uihc.org/schedule-your-covid-19-vaccination
- Mercy Iowa City Family Practice: Call (319) 339-3520
- Towncrest Pharmacy: https://www.towncrest.com, or call (319) 337-3526
- Appointments may also be available through local CVS, Hy-Vee, Wal-Mart, or Walgreens locations.
COVID-19 vaccines are available at no cost; however, vaccine providers may charge an administration fee, which is covered by most insurance. For uninsured patients, this fee is covered by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Provider Relief Fund.
For individuals seeking information about the COVID-19 vaccine, you may visit the JCPH, Mercy, or UI Health Care vaccine information websites. In addition, UI Health Care will host a Facebook Live Q&A with infectious disease specialist Melanie Wellington, MD on Friday, May 14, at noon. Visit www.facebook.com/uichildrens to watch the live Q&A and submit your questions. Specific information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and children can also be found here https://uichildrens.org/health-library/covid-19-vaccines-your-child.

COVID-19 vaccines are free regardless of immigration or health insurance status
The CDC recommends everyone 12 years and older to get a COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19 vaccines are free to all people living in the U.S. regardless of immigration or health insurance status. You will not receive a bill for a COVID-19 vaccine. However, your vaccination provider may bill your insurance company, Medicaid, or Medicare for an administration fee. You cannot be denied a vaccine if you are unable to pay the vaccine administration fee.

Monitoring Children's Internet Use
ICCSD is entering its fourth year of using Securly, a service that filters internet access on District devices and also includes the SecurlyHome Parent Hub, which parents can use to monitor internet usage, receive usage notifications, and establish limits on what your child can access. Limits parents can set include turning school-issued devices off at parent-determined times (such as bedtime).
You may have already received an email from Securly when your child was issued their 1:1 device. You can access Securly at https://www.securly.com/parent-login, and your login email will be the primary email address listed for your child(ren)'s contacts in PowerSchool. If you have trouble accessing Securly, please verify your primary contact email in PowerSchool or contact your child's school to do so (Grant Wood, 319-688-1180). You can also contact Securly support if you've confirmed your email in PowerSchool and are still having trouble accessing Securly.
Mrs. Alyssa Palante is proud to be a ildcat and Wood's Student Family Advocate; she has created the padlet linked here and above with an array of resources as well as her contact information. Please do not hesistate to reach out to Mrs. Palante with your questions.

Quarantine Guidelines - Update
As we move forward, the District will follow these COVID-19 Quarantine Protocols:
- An individual is considered a close contact when they have been within 6 feet of the COVID-19 positive individual for 15 minutes.
- Quarantine is no longer recommended if a potential exposure occurs while both the infectious individual and the close contact(s) are wearing face coverings consistently and correctly.
- The decision regarding the correct wearing of a face covering and whether a close contact must quarantine is made during the District’s contact tracing process.
- If it is determined that an individual needs to quarantine due to close contact, there will be two options for exposed individuals with NO symptoms to reduce their 14-day quarantine.
- A close contact may return to school after 10 days without a test OR
- A close contact may return to school after 7 days with a negative test. The test must be taken within 48 hours of the end of quarantine. This information must be shared with the school nurse before returning.
- Everyone must still monitor for 14 days for symptoms and exclude themselves if symptoms develop and contact their healthcare provider.
- A parent/guardian may choose to keep their child in quarantine for the full 14 days and those absences would be excused.
- Individuals who are a close contact due to exposure to a household member are required to quarantine for at least 14 days.
- Individuals who have COVID-19 must isolate for at least 10 days and be fever-free for 24 hours before returning
These new protocols take effect immediately.
