Herbs, Wonderful Herbs

Event Location: Job Armstrong Shopkeeper's Garden (behind the Glocester Heritage Society building, 1181 Main Street, Chepachet)
The Glocester Libraries with the URI Master Gardeners will offer a special herb growing program
at the Job Armstrong Shopkeeper's Garden on August 13th. URI Master Gardener Val Begin will teach you how to grow, harvest, dry, store, and use more than 20 popular herbs. Val will share her favorite recipes for herbal pestos, teas, vinegars, and butters. You can also tour the Job Armstrong Shopkeeper's Garden and see the abundant herb collection growing there!

Harmony and Glocester Manton Libraries’ Craft Tables

Harmony Library and Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: All Ages, No registration required.
Inside both libraries, you will find a craft table in the Children’s section. Crafts will be swapped out, so be sure to stop by often! Registrations is not required!
Homeschooling Ice Cream Social
Wednesday, August 10, 1 p.m., Pavilion at Kent Field
Age Level: All Ages
The Glocester Libraries are hosting a homeschooling ice cream social. We will provide the ice cream, lawn games, and a craft! Bring your favorite topping and a lawn game. This will be a great time for our local homeschooling families to get to know each other.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Movie Night

Join us for a fun movie night with the latest Sonic movie! Pizza, drinks, and popcorn will be provided.
Baby Sensory Playtime

Age Level: Newborn to 4 years old with caregiver
Join us for a fun water sensory playtime! Baby pools, simple water toys, and various sensory bins will be available for play outside by the library Tot Lot.
Summer Reading Finale
Friday, August 26, 2 p.m., Pavilion at Kent Field
Age Level: All Ages
Join us at the Pavilion at Kent Field to celebrate the end of our 2022 Summer Reading Program! Now that you know that your mystery final prize is your own library tote bag, come decorate it with us! Crafts, lawn games, snacks and drinks will be provided! There will also be a Del’s Lemonade truck! Note: If you have not received your final prize yet, bring your finished reading log to this event to receive it!
Tween/Teen Program
Teen Terrarium Making

Join us in making your very own terrarium with moss, sand, air plants, and more. All supplies will be provided.

Cookbook Club

Our cookbook for August is Endless Summer by Katie Lee. Fresh, locally sourced food is the hallmark of Lee’s cooking. A native of West Virginia, Katie Lee now lives in the Hamptons. This is how the club works: every month, pick up a copy of that month’s cookbook selection at the library. Choose a recipe to make and prepare it for the next month’s meeting. We will sample each other’s dishes and discuss our cooking experiences. If you would like to join the Cookbook Club, register online and then drop by the library to pick up a copy of the book.

Hiking Highlights in Northern New England
Tuesday, August 9, 6 p.m., Harmony Library
The library concludes its summer hiking series with a program about New England portions of the Appalachian Trail. The trail meanders through all of the New England states except for Rhode Island. Returning speaker, Jim Robinson, will share some of his favorite hikes, trips, photos, and anecdotes. Bring your questions!
Homemade Earrings Workshop for Adults
Tuesday, August 16, 6:30 p.m., Harmony Library
Join us at the Harmony Library and learn how to make your own simple, yet stylish earrings. Local artist and crafter Kate Steere will lead this workshop for adults and teens (14+). All materials will be provided. Note: Registration will open on Tuesday, August 2, at 6 p.m.
