Who is behind the mask?
This 8th grader hand made this sleeping mask in the Sewing Lab activity on Tuesdays! She used a soft flannel material for the outside and then filled the mask with a lightweight batting for fluffiness. She also sewed on a comfortable, stretchy strap.
Do you know who this industrious young lady is?

MEA Ducks!
As part of our whole school science program, we would like to hatch 6 duck eggs in the library during the months of January and February. However, we will need some families committed to adopting the ducklings and keeping them after they are hatched. If you are interested in adopting a duckling or two, please contact Vivian Sink, vsink@sandi.net by Thursday, January 11 so we can order the eggs.

Canyon Villas Nursing Home
Hello MEA Families,
Today I met with Anais Chavez from Canyon Villas Nursing Home. She told me that the residents there have many visitors during December, but not so much the rest of the year. I would love for our MEA community to become regular visitors. She suggested Thursday is their best day, I said Friday was better for us. We are talking about meeting once a month. She and I are wiling to work together to make it work to bring together our two communities. If you have a preference of days, please let me know.
Besides the usual bingo and games, I’d like to think out of the box regarding our interaction with the seniors. We have so many talented musicians and artists. We could bring art to display and have the seniors talk to the artists. Our musicians could play at such an event. Our students are learning so many interesting things- they could share their science project, their English report-whatever they feel called to share-with a community interested in sharing and connecting with them. We could grow plants to give out or have students perform skits or even a play. The possibilities are endless! If you are interested in being involved in any or all of these ideas or your own, please email Ms. Barb at bmulvany@sandi.net. We are planning our first get together in January. Thank you!
Days of Giving & Receiving
Until the new year, lets join together as an MEA community to acknowledge this season of Giving and Receiving. Small kindnesses, acts of self-care, love and empowerment take on a life of their own when we practice them together! Let’s go for it!! Look to the Monday Message and around campus for ideas of how to participate each day. Let’s enjoy this beautiful time of year together!!
Tuesday, 12/5: Thank those who you appreciate. Tell them in person or write a note!
Wednesday, 12/6: Clean up any garbage you see not in a garbage can. Love our earth!
Thursday, 12/7: Leave a positive message for someone to find. Use chalk on a sidewalk, write on a post- it note or use a piece of paper. Make someone’s day!
