Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District

A message from the Superintendent
December 2, 2016
Dear Parents and Patrons,
The Fulton Public Schools Foundation has provided significant funding for many projects in our district, some of which are highlighted here and others will be highlighted in future issues. Personally, several years ago a District Reading Specialist was able to demonstrate remarkable student progress through the use of a Foundation supported e-reader project. Even though many classrooms were implementing computer learning strategies, the personalized learning strategies of e-readers solidified my thinking regarding the effectiveness of individual technology devices for each student; a trend that continues in the district today. Ms. Diane Burre-Ludwig, Foundation Executive Director, is generally available to discuss the Foundation and opportunities for your participation. Diane can be contacted at dbludwig22@aol.com.
December 13, 2016 through January 17, 2017 is the annual registration period for the April 4, 2017 Board of Education Election. Three Board of Education positions are available during the current election cycle. Specific information is found on the Fulton 58 web site and will be in the Fulton Sun.
Thank you for sending great kids for us to work with.
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Thank You!

Sparking Learning Through STEM--Jan Bailey FMS
This grant supplied iPad minis to work with Spheros, an app-controlled robotic ball, to foster creative problem-solving and teamwork. Sphero is linked via bluetooth to an iPad to be programmed and controlled. Working together in small groups, students move through the design process to plan, build, and test their creations.
Fulton Mugs Coffee Shop--Janet Trowbridge FHS
Fulton Mugs is a successful, student run coffee shop in its second year at Fulton Middle School. This grant provided funds so the coffee shop concept could be continued at Fulton High School.
Digital Arts--Danielle Davison Bush Elementary
iPad minis were purchased with Foundation Grant funds to create digital art.
Full STEAM Ahead--Delora Vaughn Bartley Elementary
This funded project is for Makerspace materials in the library at Bartley. Stations such as Legos, K'nex, littleBits, and other materials allow students to build, design, and create projects limited only by their imaginations. In the photo below, 2nd grade students are participating in the Spaghetti Challenge.
Authentic Education Experiences--Katie Finley and Robyn Frame Bartley Elementary
This program was started last year and was granted continuation funds from the Fulton Foundation. Students in kindergarten at Bartley go on educational adventures around the community to provide them with authentic learning experiences.
FMS Thrive Hive--Tiffany Sargent, Corinne Tobias, Heather Yates, and Stephanie Horstmeier
This Foundation Grant provided the start-up for a student store where students can buy things they want, but also things they might need to THRIVE. Students use earned PBS Bucks to purchase items from the store.
