Register online for the programs beginning Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m., then visit the Harmony Library or the Glocester Manton Library to receive additional Summer Reading Program information and an activity log.
Attend our exciting library events, complete suggested activities, and have fun watching your child learn and grow!
Special Events
Plant Sale
Saturday, June 1, 9 a.m. to noon, Glocester Manton Library
Help support the Glocester Manton Library by either donating plants or buying plants at our annual sale. It is always a fun sale because we never know what green treasures will be donated.
Adult Summer Reading Program
Saturday, June 1, 10 a.m., Harmony Library and Glocester Manton Library
Beginning June 1, you can register for all the summer programs and events at the Harmony Library and Glocester Manton Library. This year, we will be offering a book discussion, a sea glass jewelry craft, fly tying workshops, painting in gouache workshops, gift certificate raffles, Wednesday morning walks, and summer concerts at the Pavilion at Kent Field.
Glocester Libraries’ 2019 Summer Reading Kickoff Party
Monday, June 17, 2 p.m., Pavilion at Kent Field
Age Level: All Ages
Our Kickoff Party begins with Henry the Juggler, as he attempts to defy the laws of gravity by juggling any number of balls, clubs, and maybe even members of the audience! Following this performance, children will have their choice of visiting the Home Depot workshop or having their faces painted or caricature done by Creative Chica. Do not miss this awesome event!
Family Programs
Mad Science: The Flight Stuff
Monday, June 24, 2 p.m., Glocester Town Hall Lawn
Age Level: All Ages
This highflying outdoor event introduces children to the principles of flight and rocketry with experiments ranging from paper airplanes and balloons, all the way to launching actual Mad Science rockets!
Family Geocaching
Thursday, June 27, 10 a.m., Steere Hill Conservation Area, 374 Putnam Pike, Harmony
Age Level: Parent/Guardian with Child – Ages 5 and up
Treasure hunters wanted! Families will explore beautiful walking trails in Glocester while searching for hidden containers. All you need are good walking shoes, a well-charged cell phone, and the Geocaching app. This program will be offered at Sprague Farm on July 11.
Sunset Family Yoga
Thursday, June 27, 6:30 p.m., Harmony Library
Age Level: All Ages
Local yoga instructor, Brenda Ferry, will lead families through basic yoga poses, breathing techniques, and more. End your busy summer day by aligning your chakras and learning relaxation and concentration. BYO mat if you have one, but extra mats will be available to borrow. Note: One mat space is reserved for each family.

Drop-in Craft: Mr. Sun and Solar System Necklaces

“Drop in” to the Glocester Manton Library Children’s Room for two crafts this month. The first two weeks of June will feature a Sunshine craft, and the second two weeks of June, we will be creating Solar System Necklaces, as we launch our 2019 Summer Reading Program: A Universe of Stories!
Block Party

Age Level: 5-9 years old
Come and have some building fun! Build with materials including LEGOs, wooden blocks, foam blocks, and even enjoy some building games.
Edible Slime
Thursday, June 20, 10:30 a.m., Harmony Library
Slime is crazy fun! What’s even more crazy is slime you can eat. Using candy and sugary sweets instead of chemicals, you can make slime that is fun to squeeze, stretch, and gobble.
Early Childhood Discovery Zone
Friday, June 14, 21, and 28, 11 a.m., Glocester Manton Library
Age Level: 3-5 years old
Build preschool early literacy skills while having fun with music, flannel board stories, and finger plays, followed byfine motor and gross motor playtime.
Pajama Story Time
Tuesday, June 25, July 9, and July 16, Harmony Library
Age Level: 3-1/2 - 6 years old
Put on your comfy PJs and join Miss Annie and the Audubon Society of RI for a fantastic Nature Story program at the Harmony Library. Stories, activities, and live animal appearances will make this Story Time extra special!
Kids Gardening Fun

Tween/Teen Volunteer Meeting

Age Level: Tweens/Teens entering Grades 6-12
Tweens/Teens are needed as volunteers, an important part of our Summer Reading Program. If you enjoy helping younger kids, need to do Community Service hours and spend your summer in air conditioning, join us and hear all about being a valued volunteer.
Fly Tying
Monday, June 24 and July 1, 6 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Learn how to tie fishing flies with RIDEM. Whether you are an experienced angler or thinking about learning how to fish for the first time, you will be shown how to make your own fishing flies and how to use them at a private fly fishing event.

Tuesday Movie Matinee
Tuesday, June 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Tuesday Matinees offer new feature films on the big screen. Registration is not necessary and the movies are free. Light refreshments are served. Bring a friend! The movies include:

Ukulele Workshop for Beginners
Wednesday, June 5, and June 12, 6 p.m., Glocester Manton Library
Musician and teacher, Tripp Hutchinson, invites you to learn how to play the ukulele. This six-week beginner workshop will get you playing the ukulele by the end of the first class. Music and instructional materials will be provided. Ukuleles will be provided; however, four ukuleles will be available for loan on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Intermediate Ukulele Workshop

This intermediate level ukulele six-week workshop is designed for player who have been strumming for a bit and feel comfortable with some of the basic ukulele techniques. See glocesterlibraries.org for additional class requirements.
Crochet Group

Beginners and crocheters who are more advanced can learn and share their experience in a comfortable room for crochet and conversation! Ashley Ledoux, an experienced crocheter, will teach beginners and be available for assistance and advice.
R.I. Industrial Revolution & Pedal Powered Anthropology
Monday, June 17, 6:30 p.m., Harmony Library
Joseph Lyons of Pedal Power Anthropology will present his video, Rhode Island’s Industrial Revolution: The Rise and Fall of an Empire. Joseph shot much of his film while cycling along bike paths in the Pawtuxet Valley that, at one time, were railroad tracks supplying the mill towns of Rhode Island. DVD copies of the documentary will be available for sale.
Sea Glass Pendant Necklace Workshop
Tuesday, June 18, 6 p.m., Harmony Library
Join local sea glass artisan Georgia Hitti for this unique workshop. All sea glass, wire, and tools will be provided, and no special skills are required. Each participant will leave with a beautiful pendant on an 18-inch silver plated chain. Note: This program is limited to adults. A teen program will be held on August 1.
Glocester Libraries’ Walking Club (Walk 1)
Wednesday, June 19, 8 a.m., George Washington Campground, parking lot at the beach
The Glocester Libraries’ Walking Club kicks off the 2019 season with a new destination! In 1965, Australian sailors from the HMAS Perth stationed in Newport provided the work force that created three well-marked loops, collectively known as the Walkabout Trail. We will hike the scenic blue loop.
Writers' Support Group

Glocester Libraries’ Walking Club (Walk 2)
Wednesday, June 26, 8 a.m., Ponaganset High School Cross Country Trail, 91 Anan Wade Road
Used by the PHS Cross Country Team and host to the State Cross Country Championships, wide and well-groomed trails boast three bridges and one beautifully crafted covered bridge. Ambitious walkers can finish their hike with a lap or two around the high school track.
