Classroom Happenings
ELA: Mrs. Camden
In ELA this week we had NWEA testing. This benchmark will give us data that we can use as we plan instruction. We also continued with our study of the Notice & Note Signposts. We added AHA! Moments. This signpost helps us recognize when a character realizes or finally understands something that the character’s realization will probably change his or her actions in some way. When students notice an Aha! Moment, they should ask themselves, “How might this change things?”
Just a reminder, students will be required to read two books each month for the rest of the school year. They should be almost finished with one of the two books for September.
I will be turning in Scholastic book orders on Friday, September 13th. If you are interested in placing an order, please do so before then.
If you’d like to donate books to our classroom library, we have wish-lists on Scholastic and Amazon. Thanks!
Science: Mr. Vorel
In Science this week we are wrapping up our exploration into density. Students completed their final guided lab which tested the density of various metals. This will lead us into our first summative assessment of the year which will take place Thursday and Friday of this week.
Please remind students to check their grades in science and finish any incomplete work. I am available before and after school to assist any student who would like individualized support.
Next week we will move into our next unit on circuits and magnets

This week we learned how much our students knew about the 9/11 attack. We watched NOVA -Engineering Ground Zer0. It documents not only the rebuilding but why we needed to rebuild. We also read primary source documents from 9/11.
Students finished up their online quiz on the fifty states and we will be moving on to the capitals next. -
50 states online https://online.seterra.com/en/vgp/3063
Also, we will be discussing important events in their life for a journalling exercise starting 9/23 along with the causes of the American Revolution.
