What's Going On In The World Of Texhoma ES
New Program Available
We are so excited to be able to offer a new intervention program for students who struggle with reading, specifically dyslexia or other related disabilities. Through this program we will be able to help students who have difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and poor spelling and decoding abilities. If you feel that your child(ren) struggle in these areas please contact Regina Gaillard, Dyslexic Coordinator here at the school.
Parent Orientation Success
We had a great turnout for the Parent Orientation on Thursday, August 29. This is a great opportunity for the school to brag on student successes from the previous year and a time that the teachers and parents can communicate about the expectations and goals of the up and coming school year. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to be an active part of your students education. It makes a huge different in their success.
Pep Rally Fun!!!!
The Texhoma High School cheerleaders will be on our campus every Friday for a short pep rally and to sell spirit goodies. Most items cost a $1. We encourage students to wear their Texhoma Red in support of our Red Devil student Athletes.
GO BIG RED!!!!
Testing News
We have already started our beginning of year testing. We do these assessments to get a baseline score for your students and to gather information on their strengths and weakness in the classroom. It is important that each student tries their very best. We not only use this information to adjust instruction and to guide our intervention programs, but we use this information to goal set with the students, so they can track their progress throughout the year. The students love being a part of this program, and the amount of growth the students make because of goal setting has been outstanding. A few of the assessment tools used are TPRI (fluency check for reading), SRI (helps determine reading levels), NWEA (shows us classroom and individual skill abilities in math and reading) and Benchmark assessments (this helps us prepare for the end of year state mandated assessments). We ask for you to talk with your children on the importance of doing their best and congratulate them on their progress throughout the year.
WOWW
Watch your calendars! We are currently scheduling field trips and on-campus educational programs for our Kinder-4th grade students through the Windows On a Wider World (WOWW). These programs provide a great opportunity to connect classroom instruction with the real world application. They get to see science experiments (such as chemical reactions), study animals from the Amarillo Zoo, and explore the Palo Duro Canyon on a nature hike, just to name a few. We are so excited that we are able to offer these experiences to our students.
Congratulations! We Are Proud of You!
We are so excited to announce that Texhoma Elementary has scored an "A" rating through the Texas Accountability System. There are 3 Domains that are reviewed. Domain I is Student Achievement. This score is based on STAAR assessments results for 3rd and 4th grade students in reading, math and writing. Domain II is School Progress. This looks at the students who are designated as economically disadvantaged and their STAAR results in reading and math. The last Domain is Closing the Gap. This domain looks at the English Learners at our school and how they performed on the STAAR assessments in reading and math and their TELPAS assessments (language acquisition assessment). Texhoma Elementary has made some amazing progress in the last 3 years.
