Where Everyone Can Succeed
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
- I am extremely excited to lead one of the biggest primary schools in Newcastle over the next six months. I am a passionate educator whose main focus is well-being and education for all students and staff.
- The Department currently has a four-week COVID-19 Blitz. We are implementing increased COVID-19 precautions for all classroom, playground and other activities. At present all of our excursion and internal activities will go ahead with extra COVID-19 precautions.
- It is really important that the school is notified if your child has COVID-19 or is a close contact as we have strict departmental guidelines to follow.
- This week we have sent many permission and payment notes out through School Bytes. Please look at the due dates as most payments are not required until September.
- We are trying to give parents as much notice as possible.
- All students have been allocated a place in the excursion. Please pay before due date.
- Only sign the consent form if you are paying at the same time. The online form should be signed, and payment made in one transaction. If payment is not received the signed consent form can be cancelled.
- A good tip for School Bytes is to create a school folder in your email, to keep all the information that we send you in one place, for ease of access.
- Staffing news, Miss Borrow has begun her maternity leave and Mrs Buckley will begin week 5. Miss Anika O’Callaghan will be teaching 2B and Miss Jessica Coverdale will be teaching 5B. I would also like to welcome two new SLSO’s Miss Sophie McDonald and Miss Cassie Lethbridge
- It was lovely to spend time at our P&C meeting on Monday night. The P&C will now meet every Week 3 and Week 8 of the term either at the school or via zoom. The P&C recommended the following suggestions that the school executive have approved.
(a) Assistant Principal (Silver Going Strong) and Deputy (Gold Going Strong) to be handed out weekly at the stage assemblies.
(b) The school will time the next assemblies will the possibility of moving them to 2.00-2.45 for the week 9 and 10 assemblies.
(c) Students will be allowed to play on the concrete in the morning session until 8.30am.
(d) K-2 parent helpers will be invited to assist with reading in the classrooms beginning week 5.
Thanks in advance for understanding!
N.B. These dates and times are correct at time of publishing, but could change.
Thanks in advance for understanding!
- Living with someone who has COVID-19? NSW Health's latest rules mean you no longer need to self-isolate if you have no symptoms. If you wish to attend school, there are important things to consider including:
- Notifying your school or early childhood education service provider that you are a close contact and wish to attend.
- Following NSW Health guidelines for 7 days since the last time someone in your household tested positive.
- Head to the Department's website for more information: https://fal.cn/3qmR8
- Thank you for embracing and using the School Bytes online consent and payment. The office staff have made a request to help reduce unnecessary workloads and parents receiving unnecessary reminders. This process enables us to have correct information about who has paid and therefore avoiding unnecessary emails to be sent to parents
- Please only sign the consent form if you are paying at the same time.
- The office has to manually send emails if you haven’t paid but given consent.
- The online form should be signed, and payment made in the one transaction.
- The email link is available until midnight on the due date.
- If paying later please do not sign the consent note.
- If your child is not attending the excursion, please indicate No as early as possible. This can be due to appointments and planned holidays.
- If you receive a reminder email, please read and respond as our records will have indicated that you have not paid and/or given consent.
- Online payments can take up to three days before the school receives payment.
- Please be aware that if no payment has been received your child is unable to attend the excursion/incursion.
- A good tip is to create a School Bytes folder in your email, to keep all the information that we send to you in one place, for ease of access.
- Every morning our Office sends out daily absence notifications via Sentral Parent Portal. Please check your Sentral Parent Portal to ensure you are receiving notifications.
- Parents/Caregivers can explain their child’s absences in advance of an absence, on the day of absence or within 7 days from the absence.
- Parents/Caregivers must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the absence will be recorded as unjustified on the student's schooling record.
- We thank you for your assistance with student attendance at Glendore Public School
- Students from our school will soon be undertaking an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
- The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.
- To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
- This funding will be credited to families after the excursion, when the funds are paid to Glendore.
- In Term 3, afternoon supervision of students at ‘The Block’ (area outside Glendore Childcare Centre) will no longer occur.
- Teachers will supervise students who have previously used ‘The Block’ in the ‘Commons’ area.

- We will be collecting until September and every bag means more sports equipment for our playground. Keep it up the great work!

- Well done to Mrs Garnsey on her beautiful artworks that are on display at JHH NAIDOC Art Exhibition!
- The John Hunter Hospital NAIDOC Art exhibition will be on display until 30th September.
- This artwork is titled 'Bunbul'.‘Bunbul’ is the Yuwaalaraay word for ‘meeting place’ which is also commonly used by people from the Gamilaroi (Gamilaraay / Kamilaroi) Nation. People come together from all walks of life to a common meeting place to share knowledge, stories and understanding. This artwork depicts people coming from all different areas, such as the hills, mountains, rivers and streams, to gather together and share a mutual understanding of Aboriginal culture and history. At a meeting place, we sit, listen and share in a space where everyone is recognised as equals.

- As you can see from our term 3 roster, we have a number of days with one volunteer; for the canteen to run smoothly and provide ice blocks and yummy treats at lunch times we need at least two people Mon to Wed with three on Thursdays and four on Fridays. Ice Blocks on a Friday is at Recess (1:30pm-2:00pm).
- If you have limited availability please let Jennifer know as we do have a few volunteers who call in and do half hour here and there, complete one task and then head off to work or home after night shift.
- Thank you again to the Glendore Community for your on-going support.
- Many thanks to our P&C volunteers who invoice and pack our uniforms for our families.
- Unfortunately, they do not have a physical shop for the collection of uniforms. Please disregard the due date on your invoice and allow 21 days for delivery from the supplier should items not be in stock at time of ordering.
- The orders will be filled by our P&C volunteers on a regular basis and items delivered to your child's classroom.
- When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community.
- Students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as members of our local community helped develop our school uniform to make sure it:
- meets the requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation.
- includes items that are affordable, comfortable and -made from easy-care and easy-wear fabrics.
- is appropriate for the full range of school activities.
- is suitable for all body shapes.
- Hunter Valley Buses are reaching out to encourage parents and carers to join their Facebook group Hunter Valley Buses School Trips where we will be posting daily alerts, changes, and news regarding the Hunter Valley routes.
- They hope that this will keep communication flowing and address some of the concerns around the school services so that parents, carers, children, and staff can be assured of our commitment to providing safe and reliable transport.
- Please refer to the document below for more details and the QR code for the Facebook group.
Information located on our online sites should assist.
