A Message from Mr. Nelson
Item #1 - Personal Body Safety Lessons
Montgomery County Public Schools is taking an active role in the prevention of child abuse and neglect through early prevention and intervention education. On December 14, 2022, during advisory, staff will be presenting lessons on the topic of child abuse and neglect. The lessons are known as Personal Body Safety Lessons and the purpose is to help students:
- Develop knowledge, decision making skills, and behaviors which promote safe living in the home, school, and community.
- Learn skills for self-protection and identifying child abuse and neglect.
- Learn skills for asking for help for self and others and practice reporting to a trusted adult; and
- Engage in positive and appropriate interactions with peers and adults.
If you have any questions or concerns about the topics that will be covered, please contact an administrator or your child’s school counselor.
Item #2 - Graduation Update
Many of you have been waiting pensively for information and details to be shared regarding the 2023 Wootton High School Commencement exercises. MCPS is very close to finalizing this information to be released with families. The official announcement of when and where graduation will take place will be shared through a direct message to students and families on Thursday, December 22, 2022. All high schools will be sharing this information on the same day as the school system has assured principals the all details will be finalized with vendors and locations at this time. As I have shared along the way, graduation season for MCPS begins following the Memorial Day holiday. Hence, please continue to hold dates in late May into early June for this event.
Sincerely,
Douglas Nelson, principal
