Week of September 18th
Parent/Guardian Help needed for Performances
We need help for all of our performances. Here are some of the jobs we need help with:
- Moving the drum major podiums
- Moving percussion equipment
- Bus chaperones
- Food or drink donations for buses
Please consider helping us for at least one performance. It really takes a whole village to make sure we are prepared and can do our best. Sign up here.
TMB Merchandise!
Represent the TMB with pride- order your new Tiger Marching Band Merchandise! There are lots of different options and we've added a blanket this year! The store closes at 11:59 pm on Sunday, September 24th. Orders should be delivered to the band room before Fall Break.
Homecoming - Friday, September 22nd
Pep Rally and Parade
The Homecoming Pep Rally will take place in the gym at 2:30 pm. Students will come down to the band room at 2:00 pm- halfway through 7th hour so that we can get set up in the gym. We will be playing pep tunes as the students enter and then will play On Urbana at the end. The pep rally is often loud, so you may want to bring ear plugs.
After the pep rally, we will head out to Iowa St. for the homecoming parade. Line up in a parade block. We will alternate the drum cadences with Eye of the Tiger, Hey Baby, and On Urbana. The parade will circle back to the school. It looks like the parade is currently set for the end of the day. **CHANGE** After we get back from the parade, we will have food for the marching band. There will not be time to go home or go get food before pictures. BRING YOUR UNIFORM TO SCHOOL FRIDAY MORNING. There will be racks for you to hang them on.
TMB Pictures before the game
- We will be doing pictures before the game in full uniform. Pictures will start at 4:30 pm at the front of the school. Please be in full uniform by 4:15 pm and head out to the front of the school.
- Since we have the parade right at the end of the school day, students may want to just pack a dinner for between the parade and pictures. There will not be time in between pictures and the football game to go home.
- There may be time between the parade and pictures to go home, but we just need to see how long the parade takes.
- Full uniform for drum majors, winds, and percussion: black marching shoes, tall black socks, black bibbers (pants), jacket, gloves, gauntlets, shako, plume.
- Full uniform for color guard: black/silver uniform top, black leggings, tall black socks, black guard shoes, flag bag with all equipment.

Food Trucks will be available from 6:00-8:00 pm. Smith Burger Company, La Paloma Food Truck, and Kona Ice will all be at this event for food purchase. Students looking to purchase food will have to wait until after all three bands perform and will have to change out of uniform. No eating in uniform.
Rain Plan: If it rains or there is inclement weather, we will move the performances into Urbana’s gymnasium.
Monticello Competition - This Saturday, September 16th!
Saturday, October 28th - Oblong Competition
We had left Saturday, October 28th as "to be determined" on our calendar and asked you to save it as a date for marching band. We will be performing at the Oblong Spooktacular Competition on this date now. Please make sure that you still have it blocked off as everyone is important for our final competition of the season.
Grades
Grades should be currently up to date. I apologize that it took so long to get them in, but we were waiting for a response to a question we had about our gradebook. Please double check your grade to make sure it is correct. A few reminders:
- When you miss a performance, it goes in as a 50%. If the performance was excused, you can make it up at jury night and that will be noted on your grade. Once made up at jury night, the grade will be changed.
- Memorization tests are pass/fail. The show music memorization tests can be retaken as many times as needed all the way until September 15th. On Urbana and Eye of the Tiger can be retaken as many times as needed up until September 29th.
- Students get 10 points for participation every day in class. The most common reasons for getting points off are not having their instrument/equipment, not having music or coordinate sheet, having the wrong shoes, and chewing gum. No gum chewing is allowed on the field because it is a safety hazard.
Uniform Care Reminders
- All students will be taking their uniforms home and will be responsible for taking care of it and holding onto all parts.
- Please hang up uniforms when you get home, please don't leave it balled up on the floor somewhere. When we wear the uniforms, we are always representing Urbana and we want to look our best.
- Winds and percussion- Make sure to have plain, long black socks to wear with your uniform. No short socks allowed. We would also highly recommend wearing athletic shorts underneath your marching band pants for ease of changing.
- Always make sure to have all parts of your uniform anytime you are taking it somewhere- garment bag, black marching shoes, plain long black socks, black bibber pants, jacket, gauntlets, show shirt, gloves, and shako (hat). Color Guard- Kristi will give you a checklist of what you need to make sure you have for each performance.
- After performing in or wearing your uniform, make sure to hang it up with the garment bag unzipped to allow it to air out.
- If you lose any part of the uniform, you will be responsible for paying to replace it. Please keep track of ALL parts of your uniform.
