ALB First Friday Newsletter

Welcome, November!

Our fall semester is rolling along smoothly. October was a full month of learning and fun! As the chilly weather (finally) comes in, please look in our Lost & Found if you are missing a jacket. We have dozens of coats, jackets, and sweatshirts just waiting to be claimed! The Lost & Found cart is in the back of the cafeteria. Parents, please write your child's name in jackets and on lunchboxes!

Students do not have school on Election Day, November 8, and we will all enjoy a full week off for the Thanksgiving holiday, November 21-25.!

Our IB Learner Profile trait for this month is Thinker. If you are interested in bringing home a conversation about what it means to be a Thinker, consider reading the children's book, The Glorious Flight by Alice and Martin Provensen. The IB Learner Profile can also be broken down to Attitudes for children in grades K-5. Attitudes of IB learners are: respect, cooperation, curiosity, independence, tolerance, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, empathy, appreciation, and integrity. Teachers use the Learner Profile and the Attitudes to guide their interactions and expectations of children in their classrooms.

Remember to "fall back" this weekend as Daylight Savings time ends on Saturday night!

We love being your leaders.

Kind regards,

Julie & Jillian

ALB Annual Speech Competition

We are excited about this opportunity to allow students to think, creatively write, and publicly speak in front of an attentive audience. Public speaking is a fear many people experience. Our desire is that this competition will allow our students the ability to view public speaking as an exciting, important form of communication.

Participants: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students

Speech Topic: I am an IB Learner and I Will…

Students will deliver a 3-5 minute speech on the topic “I am an IB Learner and I Will...”
