A Message from Mireles
Hope everyone is finding their groove as we enter this 8th week of school! Today I finally had a chance to walk outside and it's absolutely PERFECT!! When I was in the classroom I often took my students outside to do various activities when the weather was nice, it's a good way to mix it up a bit!
Please take time to read all the information below, there are quite a few action items that you'll need to tend to prior to Tuesday's PM meeting.
Highlights from the week!

Make sure that you have contacted the parents of any student that failed and have documented that conversation in CMS.
Sign in to esped prior to the meeting.
Login in to esped.com
You will see the following message in the middle of the page, “Esped is now part of Frontline Education! New home...same product, service, and support Login here ..”
Click on the arrow after “Login here” which will take you to eStAR.

What Is Response to Intervention (RTI)?
RTI’s goal is for schools to step in or intervene before any student falls really far behind. It is a proactive, multi-tiered approach to the early identification and support of students with learning or behavioral needs. Struggling learners are provided with targeted, systematic interventions at increasing levels of intensity and their progress is closely monitored.
RTI has three tiers of intervention, documentation, problem solving, and decision-making. A possible special education referral is the final step; however, the RTI process is not a way to get a student into special education. It is a way to help students and may possibly lead to a special education referral.
Tier I- The teacher implements effective teaching practices and research-based differentiated instructional strategies during core instruction, monitors student progress, and allows sufficient time to assess the efficacy of the action taken.
Tier II - Teacher consults with the counselor and grade level team to develop a plan and document the provision of more intensive, targeted supports to address the student’s concern.
Tier III - Counselor convenes a meeting/staffing with teachers and parents to assess student progress on Tier II interventions. More focused and intensive support is planned and the next steps are monitored.
Staff,
At Tuesday's staff meeting we will be using the Epi Pen trainers as our yearly required training.
Before the meeting you will need to watch a short video to review signs/symptoms of anaphylaxis.
It is a Youtube video that you need to watch on Google chrome and can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehAYoWcTpDE
NEW TEACHERS: You should have already watched the Northside Food Allergy Video online so you don't have to watch this video. You will still need to do the training with us on Tuesday. Instructional assistants should also watch the video so you will be able to recognize students having allergic reactions.
IMPORTANT:
If you have students with you outside of the school day, you are responsible for being aware of their medical conditions and administering emergency medications.
Your classroom key now opens the clinic door that faces into the front office. (It sticks a little so just make sure you keep turning it until it opens). Your classroom key will then open the cabinet that is labeled EMERGENCY MEDICATIONS/ INHALERS / EPINEPHRINE PENS. It is the middle upper cabinet. If your student has an inhaler or Epi pen here, you will be able to get to it in case of an emergency. Epi Pens are stored alphabetically on the top shelf. Inhalers are stored in baskets divided by grade level. You will be responsible for making sure the medication gets returned back to the clinic. You will need to make a note if the medicine is used (date, time) and let me know when I return to campus. Remember EMS is always called if Epi is given. Parents can decline transport when they arrive but we must always call.
Your student's medical conditions will noted in TAC/Gradebook with an "M". If a student has asthma or a food allergy, it will be noted if they have medication in the clinic. We have many students that have asthma/food allergies and do not have medications. Sometimes the student thinks they have an inhaler or Epi but they do not. They might have had it a previous year. Please be familiar with your students and whether they have medicine available in the clinic.
You might have students with you before/after school in a club and they are not in your grade-book. Previously I would put a list of all Rawlinson students with medical conditions in the Shared drive for teachers to access in this instance. This will now be put in GOOGLE SITES.
Please remember your sub-folders need to have your students medical conditions included. They need to be aware of students that could have an emergency while in the classroom.

We will be setting up our Día de los Muertos altar and wanted to invite you to bring in a picture of a loved one who has passed so we may honor them on our altar. You can also accompany the picture with food items or other mementos. We will be setting up near the trophy case that houses Mr. Rawlinson’s display on Wednesday October 10 after school. Feel free to bring them in a frame or if you’d like you can bring a photocopy and we can mount them on colorful card stock. When we take the altar down you can have the picture back. Please do label the back with a small post-it so we can return the photo and the items to you.
Thank you for sharing in this special holiday and allowing us to honor your loved ones!

Check out the #RawlinsonUnited ideas that came from YOU! If you're looking for some Tier 1 Strategies, both proactive and reactive, take a good look at it! As I expected, all the ideas we need to problem-solve and extend our learning comes right from within the people on our campus. Thanks, Mr. Rivera, for organizing the answers for us. This P4C Strategies Bank can be found on the Rawlinson 2018-2019 Google Site, under the Tab formerly known as "Discipline," but renamed "Behavior Management."
The new office referral form is found in the same tab.
There have been technical difficulties in addition the Google Form for PBSD-halls. Here is the link; please save it. We will resolve our technical issues ASAP so that you will still have one stop shopping on the Site.

Saw this on FB and thought it was such a great idea so I decided to share it!

Teacher created an "I need" Box for their classroom. The idea was for students to be able to ask for help or let the teacher know of a problem, etc. The first week the box was optional but students did report some bullying that was resolved.
The next week, the teacher made the box mandatory. Students had to put a card in the box everyday. They didn't have to write on the card if there was no need, but everyone placed a card in the box. The "needs" submitted were plentiful and varied. After some time, students had developed such a close relationship with their teacher that many students began coming to them directly and not even needing the box.
The teacher reported that in all their 15 years of teaching, this was the best thing they had ever done to reach students so early in the year.
This could also be another way of knowing when to refer a student to Counseling, sometimes they need to reach out but they just don't know how.
