The Weekly Update
June 11-15
This Week's Highlights
Welcome to the first week of summer! This week we find ourselves immersed in Take 2 review and testing. Our robotics teams were honored at the McDowell County Board of Education on Monday night, and our Student Leadership Team headed out to Pheiffer University to learn more about making change in our community with regards to dental health. It is a busy first week of summer!
The summer also brings change. Miss Smith and Mr. Kirby will be leaving us for the 2018-19 school year. Miss Smith will be leaving us to go to Freedom High School to teach Project Lead the Way courses and Mr. Kirby will be leaving us to be a counselor in Buncombe County. We will miss these two greatly and are thankful for the support, knowledge and building blocks that they contributed to our foundational years.
At FCS, we try hard to look ahead to the future, to prepare for our students and our future success. We began the interview process to fill Miss Smith's position last month. Our candidate, Heather Willis, will be an asset to our program as we continue to grow and achieve. Ms. Willis comes to us from private and charter schools teaching high school and middle school math as well as other subjects. Check out her introduction, pictures and the fun that she had at the block party last week meeting our students and families in this week's S'more.
Don't forget that we have the summer reading project (information below) and our summer math challenge begins next week! The Google Science Fair has also been released! Check out the infographic above on why we try to engage our students in math and reading over the summer months.
Thanks!
