Summer Professional Learning Opportunity
Melinda Jacobs, an attorney dealing exclusively with education-related law, will provide two identical professional learning sessions in our district this summer. The sessions, entitled "What Administrators and Teachers Need to Know About the (special education) Law," will be held on May 25 and July 21 and will be beneficial to anyone working in KCS who provides services or support to students with disabilities. All KCS staff may register by clicking here. If you have specific questions, please contact Jacki Wolfe. Please take advantage of this opportunity to receive a wealth of information from an expert in the field.
The Law Office of Melinda Jacobs, PLLC is a boutique law firm with offices in Townsend, Tennessee and Franklin, Tennessee. The firm exclusively represents clients in education law, including general education and special education issues arising under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and related federal and state laws and regulations.
Kingsport Mini Maker Faire
The call for makers is now open for the Kingsport Mini Maker Faire 2017 on Saturday July 22. Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects.
School programs are encouraged to submit a proposal for a booth, exhibit, presentation, workshop, or demo – a great opportunity to show what students are learning in STREAM! The DB robotics team will be on site as will others from surrounding school systems. Also consider CTE programming demos that showcase what students are learning.
