Hughes Family Weekly Newsletter
#HughesProud
Principal's Message
This fall has been filled with joy, academic excitement, community building, and so many #HughesProud moments. I want to thank our staff who are dedicated, passionate educators doing their best every day for our students. I want to thank our parents for supporting your children and our school so that we can have the best outcomes for all our Owls. I also want to thank our students for being the best students in LBUSD! Our students impress us every day and we are so proud of their hard work. Hughes is great because of the people and the community we foster. January is filled with thoughts about resolutions and goals. I have always liked the idea of a guiding word to focus the year. For me, the word is community. In 2023, I look forward to our continued work of fostering our community of students, parents, and staff.

Students Leaving Early (Early Outs)
When you know you are picking up your student early, please avoid the student lunch time and PE class. We are unable to call for students once they are dismissed to lunch and cannot allow adults to walk on campus. During PE classes, there is not always an available adult to let the students in to the locker room to obtain their belongings. Additionally, you are welcome to notify the office about the early out ahead of time and we can let the PE teacher and student know to keep their items with them during that time. Thank you for your help and understanding.

Hughes Guidelines for Success

Hughes - A Green Ribbon School
Reusable Water Bottles: We encourage all students to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and reduce our plastic waste.
Clean and Green: As a Green School, our students should not litter on or around campus. Please make sure that all items are thrown away and that we also pick up trash that we see when walking or sitting by it. When we ignore trash on the ground, we are saying that we are OK with trash on the ground, and that's not the Hughes way!
Walk, Bike, Carpool: To minimize the amount of CO2 we add to our environment as well as noise pollution from traffic, we encourage all our students to walk, bike, or carpool to school, when possible.
Join the Hughes PTA! Our goal is for our entire school community to be members!
