Catching up with Mr. C
Delsea High School October 2021
Hello Crusader Nation!
The school year is off to an amazing start! The return to full days and full weeks of in-person learning has been exciting and long overdue. The staff and students have been grinding away in the classroom, our athletic programs are off to a great start, and extra-curricular activities are starting to pick up steam again. We enjoyed seeing so many of our parents at Back to School Night. It was nice seeing our building coming back to life after so many slow months during the pandemic. October brings with it so many exciting activities, such as Spirit Week, homecoming, renaissance activities, parent-teacher conferences, and much more. Let's continue to work together and keep the momentum going. Have a great month & I hope to see you soon!
Spirit Week
NJ Start Strong
Start Strong is a state-required assessment. These exams will be administered on October 5th and 6th. The Start Strong assessments are intentionally brief, are designed to maximize instructional time, and can quickly provide critical data to teachers and school leaders. These
assessments provide schools and districts the flexibility to address the students’ unique needs at the beginning of the school year. They are based on a subset of prioritized prior-year academic standards and will provide educators with immediate results on the assessment platform.
October 5th: 9th-grade students will take the Start Strong Science exam. This will take place during the first two periods of the day. 10th-12th grade students will follow their regular schedules.
October 6th: All students will be testing in the morning. 9th and 10th-grade students will take ELA and Math, 11th-grade students will take Math only, and 12th-grade students will take Science. The exams will be given after homeroom from 7:30 AM to approximately 10:00 AM. Lunches will be served and an adjusted class schedule will take place following testing for all students. Start Strong will be given on student Chromebooks so we are asking that these devices come to school fully charged on the testing days.
PSAT Testing
The Delsea Regional High School District will be administering the PSAT to all 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Seniors who are enrolled in Enrichment courses will also be tested. These exams give your child a chance to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) programs, they provide firsthand practice for the SAT exam, and they generate results in areas of strength and weakness. AP potential can also be easily identified.
Schedule information for Wednesday, October 13th
- Testing students should be at their bus stops at the regular time. They will report directly to their homeroom at 7:22 AM to take the examination. Please note: no cell phones are permitted in the testing environment. Students will be provided a #2 pencil, but are encouraged to bring their own calculator. There is no make–up for the PSAT.
- Seniors who are able to provide their own transportation and are NOT enrolled in any Enrichment courses or NEXT-STEP may arrive late. Next-Step students that arrive late on this day will be marked absent. Seniors permitted to arrive late must enter through the main doors and be in the auditorium by 9:45 AM for homeroom and attendance followed by a class meeting and an RCSJ college presentation. Seniors that require bus transportation must take their regularly scheduled bus in the morning and will be housed in the JROTC room until 9:45 AM.
- Lunches will be served and an adjusted class schedule will take place following testing for all students.
