Welcome Back!

Dear Wachusett Students and Parents,

Happy New Year!

With a bit of a crazy start to the first week back from winter break, we are now on day 4 of our first full week of the new year.

As we come to the close of the first semester, we have a lot of upcoming events and announcements from the guidance office that I wanted to let you know about. If you have any questions, as always feel free to reach out to us!

As a reminder, mid-term exams start next week and they are followed by the start of semester 2!

Mid-Term Exam Stress!

In guidance, we know how stressful midyear exams can be for students. That's why, for the second year in a row, we'll be offering ways for students to DE-stress during mid-term exam week.

During the first exam block of the day on Wednesday (1/17), Thursday (1/18), and Friday (1/19), students are invited to stop by the Black Box Theatre to learn about Mindfulness and practice Mindfulness relaxation techniques, if students don't have any exams scheduled during those blocks. We'll also have snacks! No advanced sign up is needed, students should just stop by!

Second Semester Schedules

Schedules for the second semester were printed and given to students again during last block today. Students should feel free to make an appointment with their guidance counselors if they have questions or concerns about their schedule.

Partnership Program

Partnership Program results for Sophomores will be posted in front of guidance by next Friday, January 19th.

Students who got into their Partnership Program should select the appropriate classes in Powerschool once the scheduling process begins (in early February - more info will be forthcoming).

Students who got into their Partnerships can let their guidance counselors know if they're no longer interested.

Students who did not get into the Partnership of their choice can still try to sign up for the elective courses that they're interested in.
Students should feel free to reach out to their guidance counselors with any questions.

PSAT Results and Upcoming Presentation

During the extended Activity Period on January 30th, Juniors will be heading to a presentation by their respective guidance counselor on interpreting their PSAT score reports (which will be handed out the same day along with their CollegeBoard Access Codes). We'll also be discussing the upcoming college process!

Sophomores who took the exam will also get their score reports back on January 30th, and are encouraged to see their guidance counselors with any questions that they may have.

Students are also able to log in to Naviance now and see their PSAT scores. Students needing their Naviance login information should reach out to their guidance counselor.

Click the link below for more information on interpreting PSAT scores. The link contains two videos - one which breaks down the Score Report, when it's available, and the other link shows students how to link their CollegeBoard.org account to Khan Academy. Students will get their Score Reports and CollegeBoard.org Access Codes at the end of January.

College Financial Aid

If you are the parent of a senior and have not already applied for financial aid, please fill out the FAFSA and CSS Profile (not all colleges require the CSS Profile).

For more information - please visit our College Process webpage and scroll down to "Financial Aid"

Local Scholarship Opportunities

A reminder to seniors to check your Naviance accounts and review local scholarships. More and more scholarships are getting uploaded everyday, which will continue through the spring.
Click on the "Colleges" tab and then "Scholarship List" at the bottom.

Seniors - Update Naviance and Thank Your Teachers

Seniors - please remember to input your college application results into Naviance. Click on "Colleges" then "Colleges I'm Applying To" and then the Pencil Icon in the "Results" column.

In addition, please remember to give a thank you card to your teachers who wrote you letters of recommendation!

Southern New Hampshire University Decision Day

An admissions representative from Southern New Hampshire University will be here on Wednesday, January 17th to meet with interested seniors. She will be interviewing students and making an "on the spot" decision. There are still spots remaining; interested students should reach out to their guidance counselor to sign up.
