SAFETY AT PONTIAC (including excerpts from superintendent, Dr. Baron Davis)
Dear Staff,
I’m sure that you, like me, have followed the media reports on the shooting that occured on the campus of a Florida high school. Undoubtedly, our hearts break for the students, employees and parents from the school and their entire school district family. Their world has been permanently altered, and for some time to come they will mark events based on whether they occurred before or after this shooting.
As we face yet another school shooting in our country, we also must face that these situations are a reality we must prepare for with great diligence and fidelity. With that in mind, I want to reiterate safety points and highlight additional areas that we cannot overlook.
Lockdown Drill — drill for practicing what to do when an intruder comes on your campus
As stated in the district’s Emergency Procedures Guide, schools must conduct a minimum of two lockdown drills during a school year.
Review the lockdown procedures with your students regularly, to ensure new students that join your class are aware of these procedures
Expect and embrace conversations around this topic, particularly "stop and think" exercises or "table top discussions" hosted by our SRO.
Remain Vigilant
Doors that should be locked must stay locked and not be propped open.
Review with students, parents and volunteers the process for visitors entering campus. Please remember to redirect someone who comes to a locked door and wants to get in the building or contact the SRO immediately if you are suspicious of any visitor on our campus.
If you see something, say something.
Review visitors' behavior.
Encourage students, volunteers and other parents to report suspicious activities and/or discussions as well as anything that just doesn’t seem right.
Remember to use our Safe School Line to report tips. Anonymous tips can be reported using the Safe School icon on the Richland Two mobile app or by calling 803-736-8756.
Support from Admin
Know that the admin team debriefs with our SRO after each drill. The feedback is used to make needed adjustments and improvements. If at any time you have feedback to share or concerns to raise, let us know. This is all of our safety and we want you to always feel secure and have a voice in these safety drills.
We will work with the communications department to increase visibility of the Safe School Line through posters around our school and online promotion.
As employees in our school district, we must continually demonstrate to our students, and parents that we strive to provide a safe learning and working environment. Thank you for all that you do to support our highest priority -- the safety and welfare of the Pontiac family.
It's YEARBOOK Time
Thank you for completing this link if you are a club sponsor. If your club has shirts or you would like them to "match" please notify the students in advance.
Its that time where Bess needs all your candid pictures you have of your class, grade level, or any club that you run!
As the deadline for the yearbook approaches she wants to make sure that she includes everyone as much as she can. Please share the photos with Bess by Wednesday.

LEADER IN ME LEADERSHIP SHOWCASES
As we approach the Spring, it is that time that we receive numerous invitations to attend nearby Leadership Days from schools implementing The Leader in Me!
“Leadership Day” events are held by those elementary schools going through The Leader in Meprocess. These schools open their doors to the community for one day or one-half day and let others see the amazing transformation that takes place within their building for staff and students alike. Students showcase their leadership skills, staff share their successes, and the leadership philosophy driving the culture of the school is tangibly “seen and felt.” Attending a Leadership Day event is one of the best ways to learn more about The Leader in Me.
It is our intent that every staff member that desires to attend a Leadership Day is provided that opportunity! If you have not attended a school visit like this, and would like to, please let K.Barber know!
