Clear Lake Intermediate - December 17, 2021
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Well, we've made it. It's halftime, time to hit the locker room, give the game pep talk, and catch a breath or two. It has been a breezy semester, but this week has been a bit more of a gale force wind. Thank you to all the teachers, parents, and students who have been able to keep their wits about them in such a spirited week of exams, excitement for the holidays, and the drama that accompanies a school in the 21st century.
Life in the office of an intermediate school can often look like an urban emergency room. There are tears, laughter, and screaming all wrapped up in about 1160 square feet of floor space. This week has been a little busier than most, as it always is this time of year. As we were trying to manage the events and incidents of the last week, one of our teammates was quietly singing the words, "It's the most wonderful time of the year." It was a bit incongruous with the events going on around her, but after some contemplation, I realized how absolutely right she is.
It IS the most wonderful time of the year! Whatever your plans and traditions for the next two weeks bring to your family, we all have this in common: A chance to relax with your kin, let your kids sleep in as long as you like, and quite possibly let them eat cereal for every meal. Slow down for a minute, watch a favorite movie, and talk to your kids about how their semester went. Before you know it, the break will be over, we will start the long marathon that is the stretch between January and Spring Break, and you might now have the chance to slow down again.
Thanks again for sharing your families with us, and we look forward to a bright 2022.

Message from the Clinic
While we are seeing a slow decrease in the number of COVID cases in CCISD, we are not out of harm's way when it comes to getting sick. Please keep your child home if they are not feeling well. We are starting to see the usual fall illnesses pop up at school (strep, rhinovirus, seasonal allergies, RSV, and even flu). This is making dealing with school illness a bit more challenging in the midst of the pandemic. Please be patient as we try to navigate through this together. You can help me by continuing to do the daily Wellness Screener with your child each morning.
Your child needs to be able to pass the Skyward Wellness Screener in order to attend school. If your child does not pass the Screener, you can indicate this by filling out the Wellness Screener on Skyward family access. This will notify me that they failed the screener and excuse their absence for the day. I will reach out to you that day by email or phone.
Please do not send your child to school sick. If your student has any of the following symptoms, they need to stay home. (cough, fever of 100 or higher, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, headache, fatigue, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea/ vomiting, diarrhea, chills, muscle aches).
Depending on the symptoms they are having, length of time they have been going on, etc. your child may have to complete one of the below return to school options before they can come back to school.
- be seen by their medical provider and get a note clearing them to return to school, OR
- have negative PCR covid test, OR
- be out 10 days from symptom onset
Allergies are tough this time of year. If your child has documented seasonal allergies and is taking their regular allergy medication and their symptoms are not improving, I encourage you to reach out to their medical provider for further guidance and clearance to return to school.
If you have any questions about Illness/Covid protocols for this school year, you can visit https://ccisd.net/covid19. There are several flow charts to help you decide if you can send your child to school or not. Or, you can always call me at 281-284-4100.
