LHS Staff Newsletter--Year 18, Vol. 2, 09/03/2018
Best Year Ever
Thank you again for a fantastic inservice week. We worked very hard to give you a week filled with practical, hands-on, and useful information that you could utilize in your classroom immediately. Many thanks to the staff who helped plan and present the Essential PL--Mark Alberda, Kara Barco, Kelli Bradshaw, Jennifer Renne, and Kelly Singer.
It was a full week, but we hope you also had an opportunity to have fun and connect with colleagues. Don't forget to take that spirit of fun and connectivity into your classrooms on Tuesday. As we heard on the podcast we listened to on Friday (https://soundcloud.com/don-wettrick/bad_start), we want the students to experience the joy in learning. Here are some tips on how to do that: https://www.pinterest.com/ditchthattxt/back-to-school/.

Advisory Info
Everyone has an advisory "home." If you are the teacher of record for advisory, your grade level and room number are listed in Synergy. If you are paired with someone, please to refer to your email for your room location. Everyone should report to Advisory on Tuesday. Tuesday’s Advisory time will be grab and go lunch time. Please follow the assigned time on the “C” day schedule based on the classroom you are in for Advisory. There is no set Advisory Lesson that day, so use that time to meet your kids, learn their names, and help them get adjusted to a new school year. Particularly if you have a Freshman advisory group, they will really appreciate the time to decompress and ask questions. You could also show our "Thunder" video (https://youtu.be/oCUg0pkhFWE ).
Wednesday’s advisory will have a slideshow to share. That slideshow will include detailed info on One Lunch and also will include the appropriate grade level admin video. You will receive that link via email. Please help students locate the activities available for One Lunch and begin to help them think about where they’d like to go Wednesday during One Lunch. Remind them that activities change daily so they should always check the One Lunch link/QR code, which will be in the Wednesday’s Advisory slideshow. Also included in Wednesday’s advisory slideshow will be optional “getting to know you” ideas if your have time after answering One Lunch questions. Thanks so much for helping to make advisory a place where our students are strengthened through relationships, guided towards an informed future and feel part of a strong school culture.

Block 1B teachers are reminded to pick up their bag of student packets to be distributed on Wednesday, September 5. Boxes will be placed on the back counter in the main office for teachers to return completed forms. A copy of the information sheet inside the bags can be found here.
