Titan News
Update from Sugar Land MS - April 26, 2020
Titan Families,
This week we begin the fourth week of online learning, and we know that for some this has been a true challenge. We encourage everyone--students, parents, and teachers---to maintain a routine and to take things one step at a time. It may not take much to feel a sense of being overwhelmed, and that is not what we are after. Yet, if students, parents, or teachers are feeling this way, we have to know about it. Please be sure to maintain an open line of communication with your child's teachers, their grade level counselor, and their grade level assistant principal.
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8, and we have created a way for you to tell your teachers how much you appreciate them through uploading a photo or a brief video. Please see the item below about Teacher Appreciation Week which shows you how you may tell your teachers that you appreciate them.
You should have received an email on Wednesday last week regarding your child's Term 3 (T3) report card being viewable in Skyward Family Access. Next up is a Progress Report (PR8), which you will see in Skyward this Thursday, April 30. Your child will receive one of three "marks" (not a numeric grade) for PR8. Grading information was shared in last week's Titan News, and is also on our SLMS Online Learning Learning web page. Grading is quite different for this progress report, so if you have questions about it, be sure to check the web page.
Current 6th and 7th grade girls interested in trying out for Cheerleader for 2020-21, please complete this survey form by Sunday, May 3. Please contact Coach Daniels at lauren.daniels@fortbendisd.com if you have any questions. See item in newsletter, as well.
Remember that Yearbook sales end this Friday, May 1. Visit our Yearbook page for more information. Please note that our publisher is not able to share a delivery date with us yet, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will update our website with delivery information once it becomes available.
Last, don't forget about ordering school supplies for 2020-21! The deadline is May 28, and the link to ordering information is further down in the newsletter.
All my best,
Keith Fickel, Principal
Week of April 27, 2020 - At a Glance
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4 - 8
Teacher Appreciation Week is next week, and our teachers are the best! Your teachers have worked really hard this year on your behalf, and even more so during the Online Learning experience we are currently in. They would love to see you, and they would really appreciate an encouraging message from you. Please upload a picture or short video of you telling them "thank you." Using the pictures and videos that are submitted, we will put together a presentation for teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. We also encourage you to Tweet your thanks to your teachers, and mentioning @SLMSTitans.
There are two ways you may upload a photo or a brief video:
- Upload your picture using Microsoft Forms (requires students to log into their FBISD account)
- Upload your picture into a media album in our Schoology course titled SLMS Teacher Appreciation Week. Students may Log into Schoology, and then join the course by using this code (copy and paste it): S65P-2ZHF-RSRKV
SLMS Restroom Renovation Update
Your tax dollars hard at work! The first set of boys' and girls' restrooms has had its renovations completed. The contractors are working on the second set now, and by the end of the summer, they will have worked their way around the building to renovate every single restroom. We are grateful for the thriftiness of the FBISD Maintenance and Operations Department, as well as Budget and Finance and Design and Construction to come together to make this happen!
SLMS Online Learning Information Web Page

Parent Training

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- When will I be able to retrieve my personal items from my locker, athletic/PE locker, etc.? - We know this is foremost on many students' and parents' minds. At some in the future, we will be able to share plans about how students will get their belongings. The district is working out a plan for this important opportunity, and when it is ready, it will be communicated to students and parents.
- What about medication in the clinic and immunization records for next year? - We will notify parents when/if a plan is in place for medication pick up. Immunization records may be directed to our nurse, Mrs. Lincoln, at Angela.Lincoln@fortbendisd.com
- What about the 8th Grade Exit Event? - Unfortunately, this event will not be able to take place, as we had hoped it would. The PTO will be contacting students who paid their fee so that they may be issued a refund. They do have about 100 8th grade t-shirts that they were hoping to issue as a part of the exit event, and they are working on how they might make them available to 8th graders in a different way. Stay tuned.
- How may I return items that belong to the school (textbooks, library books, athletic equipment, musical instruments, etc.) - The district is working out a plan for this important opportunity, and when it is ready, it will be communicated to students and parents.
