Message from Geordie
Dear families,
It has been a HUGE week… Again!
I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at the picnic tonight. I am sure there will be a few tired students after our swimming carnival, however, the weather is perfect and we have a lot to celebrate after a really nice start to the year.
Just so we are all on the same page I have spoken to all our students about treating each other with Kindness and Respect in these last few weeks. It has been a big term and many of our students are beginning to get tired. We have spoken about being calm at school and discussed strategies for when we feel frustrated and upset (taking deep breaths, going for a drink, talking to a friend or teacher).
We have also spoken about the way we play at recess and lunch and how important it is not to use our bodies to physically hurt others. This often happens when we get too silly in our games and while it might start as fun, it often leads to conflict. We have talked a lot about how to deal with conflict without being physical (asking the person to stop first, telling a teacher if this does not work). If these messages could be backed up at home, it would be great.
Please remember if you enter the school during the day (after drop off and before pick up) to sign in at the office first. Please do not walk down to classes as this disrupts the learning process.
A reminder that when you are using the car park and kiss & drop, please do not use your mobile phone. The safety of all children and families is paramount and your co-operation is much appreciated.
If I don’t see you tonight have an awesome weekend. I will be in the Port to Pub tomorrow and will be aiming to keep out of the sun a little better than last time!

Caritas - Fourth Week of Lent
Arsad, an Indonesian farmer, had no toilet in his house, so always had to walk into the
forest to the open defecation area. His family was often sick and open defecation
caused many neighbourhood disputes. With the support of Caritas Australia and its
partner agency, Laz Harfa, Arsad took part in hygiene, sanitation and financial
management training. He then funded the building of a toilet in his house and helped
other community members to save money to construct their own toilet.
Now, Arsad’s family is healthier, their community no longer practices open defecation
and is more harmonious. Arsad inspired his community to ‘Be More.’
Around 17 percent of Indonesia’s rural population, or 45 million people, practice open defecation – going to the toilet outdoors in fields, forests and other open spaces. (World Bank)
Watch a short film about Arsad’s story here.
