Happy Friday!
What a great week! We started our week by celebrating Dr. Seuss's Birthday with fun pencils and an activity using the book Oh, the Places you Will Go! This went along perfectly with our Community Helper unit. We made some super fun hot air balloons telling what we would like to be when we grow up! They are hanging in our hallway, so if you are in the building, feel free to stop by and check them out! We finished our week with a Falcon PRIDE store.
Intent to Return Forms: It is hard to believe that we have already begun planning for the 2015-2016 school year. We need your help by completing the attached form letting us on where you plan on having your child next year. Please complete and return the form to me by March 18th. The form will be sent electronically to you via email later today. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Field Trip: We are preparing for our next field trip. On March 25th we will be visiting the CHS Planetarium. Last week permission slips were sent home. Please return this to school by next Friday. We will not be needing parent volunteers for this trip.
Announcement: Lately, I have been noticing a problem with small toys, chap stick/lip-gloss , and hand sanitizer being brought to school. Please check your kiddo's backpack for these items. Unfortunately, they are becoming a distraction in the classroom. Students are allowed to bring small stuffed animals/dolls to school only if they have purchased that privilege from our Falcon PRIDE store. If you feel your child needs chap stick while they are at school, please let me know. We have had students trying to share their chap stick and lip gloss with others and that is of course is a health concern. I have hand sanitizer in the classroom and students can always wash their hands in the classroom. Please keep the small hand sanitizers at home.
Important Dates:
March 11th: 5th Grade Play
March 13th: Spirit Day-Twin Day (dress like a friend)
April 3-12th: Spring Break
Classroom Update
Reading: We will be finishing up Unit 7, On the Job. The kids have really enjoyed this unit and all the fun activities we did along with it. This week our focus will be what jobs people can do. Our comprehension skill will be looking at the characters of a story and think how they are related or connected to the story.
Word Work:
Letter of the Week: Qq and Xx
Phonics Skill: Segmenting sounds and substituting final sounds in words.
Sight Words: little, play
Vocabulary Words: connect, give, receive, send, take
Writing: We have moved in to our next writing unit, Writing Opinion and Persuasive pieces. This week we talked about problems we see in our classroom or our school and how we could fix them. We also discussed that writers don't just write books. They can also write songs, poems, letters or make posters to share their thoughts, opinions or ideas! They loved the idea of trying to use their writing to make our school a better place!
