Diversity Alliance Club
Did you know…
Burton has an active Diversity Alliance Club, which is open to any students in 3rd-5th grades. If you have a child who may be interested in joining this year, please read on for more information and a link to the permission slip.
The Diversity Alliance Club will be meeting during lunch recess in Mrs. Keller's classroom (207) on the following Fridays this year: 10/14, 10/28, 11/4, 11/18, 12/2, 12/16, 1/20, 2/3, 3/3, 3/17, 4/14, 4/28, 5/12, 5/26, 6/9. After meetings, students will join their own classes to eat lunch. There is a maximum of 24 students, due to classroom capacity. If interest exceeds the classroom capacity, we will consider rotations or other solutions.
The club will focus on helping students explore their own cultures and traditions, as well as other cultures and traditions, understand concepts such as discrimination and equity, and learn age appropriate ways they can support all populations in our school, community, and beyond. Topics which may arise during the club include, but are not limited to, racism/Black Lives Matter, ageism, sexism, women’s rights, gender equity, poverty, LGBTQ+, and discrimination. Club advisors are Mrs. Keller (melanie.bascom-keller@berkleyschools.org) and Mr. Torres (ociel.torres@berkleyschools.org)
To sign your child up for the Burton Diversity Alliance Club, please fill out the permission slip: Diversity Alliance Club Permission Slip 2022-23
FUN RUN is Coming
Hello Burton Families! Fun Run is just around the corner and our Blue Jays are getting super excited. So far as a school we’ve earned our Monarch Cafe coupons by raising $10,000 and our inflatable arch by raising a total of $15,000 and we’re working our way up to turning our run into a Bubble Fun Run when we hit $20,000. When we reach $20,000 we are half way there! Our Fun Run is a week away so let’s keep the momentum going to reach our $40,000 goal! We are also still in need of volunteers for the day of the event. This spectacular event is made possible by great volunteers like you - sign up today! Any question, please contact Leah Wallbillich at Leah.Wallbillich@gmail.com.
