Senior Dates and Information
Senior Information April 4, 2019 We can hardly believe the time has almost come to watch our seniors walk across the stage! Below are some really important announcements and dates. Please read through until the end, and mark your calendars with these important dates! Senior Gift The class of 2019 will create a senior garden as a gift to Crockett Early College High School. Seniors who are interested in helping out are asked to sign up for Ms. Robinson’s FIT session this Friday (April 5th). They will be planning work times and making a list of necessary donations. If you are interested in helping out with this project, please reach out to Ms. Robinson at lisa.robinson@austinisd.org. Attendance As we know, senioritis is a struggle as seniors prepare to graduate. Crockett’s senior class has one of the lowest percentages of attendance in the district. Because of the overall poor attendance throughout this year, announcements were made for two weeks prior to spring break, and letters were sent to parents encouraging them to send their child to school on the non-school sponsored senior skip day (March 15th). In those announcements and that letter, it was stated that seniors who would skipped on that day would potentially lose credit in a class if they dropped below 90% and that they might also lose the privilege to go to prom. Many thanks to all students who attended school on senior skip day. Unfortunately, the senior attendance for March 15th dropped significantly to 55%. Because our school is responsible for a certain attendance percentage, the senior class needs to improve their attendance by 2-3% per day for the remainder of the year to make-up for that one day. In order to do that, any student with an unexcused absence on March 15th must not skip for the month of April in order to become prom eligible. This means there should be no unexcused absences (this does NOT include tardies) during April. Please keep all planned doctors appointments, college visits, etc. and send your child to the attendance office with any doctor’s notes, parent notes, or documentation for excused absences. Furthermore, in order to maintain a balanced budget and sell more tickets to cover our cost, Crockett’s prom will now be a junior and senior prom. We are also doing one more fundraiser. Please see the second attachment for more information on this fundraiser and ask your child for the flyer that was given to them during advisory. Additionally, there are still a number of seniors who need to make-up attendance hours. All attendance hours are due no later than May 1st. Ms. Farris will be posting updated attendance hours outside of her office. Attendance hours can be made up by attending tutoring, Twilight School, and/or Saturday School. Prom Details Date and Time: May 18th, 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm Location: The Vista at Seward Hill Current Tickets Cost: $65 for one or $110 for two Dress Code: Formal attire is required. Prom dresses should not have sheer, skin-toned fabric that gives the illusion of bare skin in areas that should not be bare. Please be responsible when choosing your outfit for prom. If you have a question about the dress or suit/tuxedo you might choose, please bring a picture and ask your assistance principal. Eligibility to attend prom: You MUST have 90% attendance If you have an unexcused absence on March 15th, you must not have an unexcused absence the month April (see notes under attendance section) All attendance hours must be turned in by May, 1st If you are bringing a non-Crockett student, please pick up the necessary paperwork from the front office for your date to attend prom and turn in the paperwork to Ms. Skadson Senior Finals Date Final Notes Wednesday, May 15 Senior finals for 1st and 2nd periods Finals will be taken during their regularly scheduled classes. Listen carefully for the exam dates:
● Tuesday, April 9th is English I
● Thursday, April 11th is English II
We will be having makeups on Wednesday and Friday.
Again, don't forget your fully-charged chromebook and headphones (if you have some) on the date of your test.
Testing will begin no later than 9:30AM.
Thank you for all of your hard work getting prepared! We know you will do your best to be successful!
SAT School Day Message to 11th Grade Students:
All 11th grade students will take the SAT at school on Tuesday, April 9th, during the regular school day. The SAT is accepted at all U.S. colleges; it measures what students are learning in high school and what they need to know to succeed in college and career. You will get to take advantage of being in a familiar environment testing with teachers you know!
If you have a calculator, please bring it. You may also want to bring some sharpened pencils to do your best work.
Signs will be posted with student names and testing locations.
Non-Testing Students April 9th (Exempt 9th, 10th, and 12th Grade Students):
What if you are not testing on April 9th? Exempt 9th grade students, 10th grade students, and 12th grade students will be participating in scheduled activities during English I EOC and SAT School Day on April 9th.
Signs will be posted with your starting locations. Attendance will be taken throughout the day.
SAT School Day Message to Parents:
Your 11th grade student will have the opportunity to take the SAT at school on Tuesday, April 9th, during the regular school day. The SAT is accepted at all U.S. colleges; it measures what students are learning in high school and what they need to know to succeed in college and career. This is the first time that the AISD High School Office was able to secure funding and make this great opportunity available to all of our juniors, Class of 2020 students, to be able to have this additional FREE testing session of the SAT during a regular school day
.
What are some of the advantages of this district-wide initiative?
Your student will be more comfortable and confident by testing in a familiar place.
You don’t have to worry about logistics of getting your student to a test center.
No one has to worry about weekend conflicts or disrupting family time!
Colleges/Universities highly recommend that Juniors take the PSAT/NMSQT one last time during the Fall of their junior year and then take at least one college entrance exam (SAT and/or ACT) during the spring of their 11th grade year. Then of course, take the SAT and/or ACT once again as they near/begin their senior year so that they are ready to start their college application process early fall of their senior year. Once again, this is a FREE/additional SAT testing seating that AISD juniors will have; so for those students that are eligible for fee waivers, they will still have the 2 additional free SAT testing opportunities that the College Board allows.
April 9th is just around the corner, what steps do juniors need to take?
They do NOT need to worry about pre-registering; all they need to do is to be sure that they are in school on April 9th and are ready to do their best on the SAT School Day! Prior to the SAT School day of course, we recommend that they practice for the SAT on the College Board website/through the Khan Academy at: https://satpractice.org
