PACK Student Updates
Sept. 9, 2022
It's a GREAT day to be a Husky!
What a great week with the Husky PACK! It was awesome to be in classrooms this week seeing students working collaboratively with each other. This week also started to focus more on the qualities of the Husky PACK. Positivity, Accountability, Community and Kindness. Each day staff is working with students to build community in their classrooms and our school. One great example of this that I witnessed this week was a game students played in PE. They had to use (Rock, Paper, Scissors) to determine who was the winner and loser of each round. This is a strategy we encourage students to use any time they have a disagreement at school. Ask them about this game in PE. It looked like a ton of fun!

Arrival and Dismissal Update
Roosevelt Families,
The Roosevelt staff has been working very hard to provide a safe and efficient arrival and dismissal process for students. Here are a few notes related to arrival and dismissal that I would like to share.
Arrival
The arrival process takes about 10-12 minutes from start to finish. We still have a number of cars lining up well before the doors open to start school. I would recommend trying to stagger the time you arrive at school. Cars arriving at 8:15am can pretty much drive right up to the drop off line without waiting on the shoulder of the road.
Please have your student ready to get out of the car once you have pulled up and stopped. Staff will be opening doors and helping students get out and into school. If students are already unbuckled and ready to go it will help the process be a little more efficient.
Dismissal
The dismissal process for car riders takes about 20-25 minutes from start to finish.
Please have your student sign visible in the front window through the entire pick-up process. This will help staff who are loading students be more efficient.
Student safety is my top priority with the arrival and dismissal process. Because of this fact, we can no longer support students being dismissed as walkers to parked cars off site. Multiple times this week, students who were selected as walkers did not leave the school property when released and were still on school property at 3:40pm. Roosevelt does not have staff to supervise students who are selected as walkers but do not walk home. Walkers will be limited to students who can walk to their address of residence and will be required to leave school property once dismissed. All other students will need to be picked up in the car line.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience with the arrival and dismissal process at Roosevelt. The intersection of Orchard Lake Rd and Commerce Rd. is very busy at 8am and 3pm. Please understand that student safety is my number one priority and while I respect this process may take 20-30 minutes, I will not be making adjustments that compromise the safety of students. Working together I am confident that we can make this a productive experience for all families.
Kids Klub Drop-in
If you are unable to pick your student up by 3:30pm they will be taken to the Kids Klub program. Please understand there is a fee associated with this supervision. You can contact community education with any questions regarding before and after school care.

8:20am-3:12pm
Arrival
The doors will open at 8:10am for the 2022-2023 school year. Due to a lack of adult supervision students will not be allowed in the building until 8:10am.
If students are dropped off prior to 8:10am they will be required to wait outside the building. (Note adult supervision will not be provided prior to 8:10am)
Students will enter the building, go to their locker, and then immediately to class. Staff will be present to greet students at the classroom door starting at 8:10am.
Our goal is to reduce the amount of time students are in the hallways congregating with other students.
Dismissal
This year no students will be allowed to walk home from Roosevelt. All students will need to ride the bus or be car pickup.
Students who are riding the bus will be dismissed at 3:10pm.
Car Line pickup will start at 3:10pm and will dismiss from the Commerce Rd. entrance/exit.
Note: All traffic will be required to turn right onto Commerce Rd. No left turn will be allowed to keep the flow of traffic moving.

Roosevelt Visitor Protocol
We're excited to welcome back parent volunteers in the 22-23 school year!
Unscheduled visitors coming to the building will not be permitted to enter past the front office.
Drop-in visitors will not be allowed to enter the building without a pre-scheduled appointment. We will continue this approach in an effort to maximize safety & security while minimizing disruptions to learning.
Families are welcome to schedule in-person meetings with administrators, teachers, counselors, and other staff. These meetings should be scheduled in advance and communicated with the main office. The option to Zoom for meetings will also continue to be available.
Volunteers:
- Must have approval from the principal and teacher before volunteering.
- Interested volunteers must also complete a volunteer form.
- ICHAT background checks are still required for all non-student volunteers.
Title I Services at Roosevelt Elementary
Roosevelt Elementary qualifies as a Title I building. With Title I funding we are able to provide multiple resources to students that support academic success. Some of these resources include but are not limited to,
Intervention support in the areas of reading, writing and math.
Before and after school program
Summer academic programs
Academic resources
This year food services will be providing the opportunity for all students to receive free breakfast but not free lunch. With that being said, I encourage you to still complete the application if you feel you may qualify for services. The amount of Title I funding Roosevelt will receive is based on these percentages.
Free and Reduced Lunch Application

ICenter News from Mrs. Roth
I hope your Husky had a great time in the ICenter this week!
We had an awesome first book checkout and a great time learning where all of the books are in the new ICenter!
We would like to give a big Thank You to Chuck Nance for putting up our new Lego Wall! Students will get to check it out next week!
Your Husky will have the opportunity to check out books each week from our school library! If you have found any ICenter books at home (they have a Roosvelt bar code on the back) please turn them in at any time!
Kindergartners and 1st graders are able to check out 1 book each week. 2nd graders are able to check out 2 books each week. Our 3-5th graders are able to have no more than 5 books checked out at a time. Once any of our Husky’s have reached their maximum number of books they will need to return a book to get a book!
If you would like to help with book checkout, reshelving and beautifying our ICenter please click on our SIgn Up Genius!
