TMV Virus Information
TMV is a rod shaped virus. The shape is important as it is a single stranded RNA virus.
TMV spreads by replicating and becoming dependent on the host. It spreads cell to cell by the plasmodesmata. Workers and infected plants spread the virus. Failure to wash hands when handling plants can spread the virus. Milk can work to deactivate the spread of the virus.
This virus affects the solanaceous plant family. This family includes tomatoes, tobacco, and petunias.
The effect on agricultural crops includes mottling, leaf curling, and yellowing of plant tissues.
