How to look after toddler's teeth?
Novadent Advanced Poly Dental Care Centre
1) Supervise brushing
2) Spit, not rinse
3)Use an adult toothpaste
Brushing teeth with fluoride toothpaste (of quantity 900 – 1100 ppm) until toddlers are 3 years old. After 3 years old you suggest your kid to have a small pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
4) Reward good brushing
Reward must be positive reinforcement and not bribery
5) Stop the bottle
6) Look at your own diet, patients
As a Mum, you have to look at your own diet since toddlers will try to eat what mother will eat
7) Lose that dummy
Prolonged dummy use (after the age of 1) causes something called anterior open bite where the teeth do not grow together and a gap is left at the front of the mouth
8) Work on eliminating the bedtime feed
Although milk is a low sugar food, it can still cause damage if left to pool in the mouth overnight, especially if your toddler has got used to suckling on demand through the night
