We Are A.R.M.Y. Strong!!
January 24 is National Compliment Day. At WMS, we will be encouraging
students to take a minute to compliment a friend. We also would like to
encourage you to compliment your student. Remember, a compliment is
specific, truthful, and sincere. During these pre-teen/teen years,
encouraging and positive messages from caregivers are so important to our
kids - even if they act as those they don't hear these messages. We also
would like to extend a compliment to our parents - thank you for being
involved in your child's education and supporting us at WMS!
Virtual Day Assignment Due Tuesday January 24th
PTSA Winter Formal January 27
Our PTSA has scheduled the Winter Formal for Friday, January 27nd from 6-8pm. This is a great opportunity for the students to get dressed up and enjoy some time together. Boys can wear dress pants, a dress shirt and are encouraged to wear a tie. Ladies can wear dresses or dress pants/skirts. Shoulders must be covered by sleeves or a sweater. All dresses or skirts must be at least finger tip length. Please contact Ms. Branson if you have any questions about the dress code. Also, if you need dresses or dress clothes, have your student see Mrs. Miller. This is one of our favorite events at WMS. The students take pride in dressing up and having a great time.

Washington's Grading Policy
1=Far Below Proficiency
2= Approaching Proficiency
3=Proficient (students do not need to be perfect on an assessment to be proficient)
3+=Above Proficient
**Homework and classwork are intended to be practice for the assessments. Those will be marked in the gradebook as complete (Y) or not complete (N).
At the end of the grading period, we look at the percentage of skills they show to be proficient to determine the report card grade. The scale is as follows:
90%+=A
80%-89% = B
70%-79%=C
60%-60%=D
59% or below = F
Students will not have as many items in the gradebook, but we want them to show proficiency on each skill before the end of the quarter. This means we will reteach and allow for retakes each quarter. Again, there are fewer skills, but that allows for us to teach in different ways and ensure that students are learning the material required to move on. In addition, we teach students that, even if they don't know it the first time, they need to keep working. The goal is growth and constant improvement.
For more information about our grading policy, you can visit the website below or join us for parent information sessions starting early in September. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Branson.
