MZE mitigation plans

Our school mitigation plans can be found here: https://www.matsuk12.us/MachetanzElementaryMitigationPlan

Our plans have not changed however, due to COVD fatigue there has been some complacency in following the plans. This is completely normal however we have been renewing our efforts to follow the plans. This included mask wearing reminders. All students 3-5th grade and all staff must wear a mask throughout the day. If physical distancing can occur then students may take a mask break. This includes recess. Many students are socializing in groups during recess and not physically distancing and our recess monitors are providing a lot of gentle reminders for students to wear their mask.

Masks need to cover the nose and mouth to be effective.

Again, these plans are not new, however we are providing more reminders now than we have especially as cases rise.

Students in kindergarten through 2nd grade are not required to wear a mask but are highly encouraged to wear one. We appreciate your support with this,. WE truly want to remain in school and avoid remote learning for as long as possible.

You can find all COVID related information including school closures around the district here:https://www.matsuk12.us/coronavirus

Helping your child stay on track when absent from school

If your child is absent from school, help them stay caught up by checking out their teachers pages below. Their links include the work your student needs to complete each week along with other important classroom information.

The borough COVID cases are rising and we are now at high risk level as a borough. It will become harder to keep schools open as cases increase and we need your help.

Has you child displayed any COVID related symptoms?

It is important to keep your students home for 10 days from the onset of any COVID related symptoms even if your student in feeling better and you do not believe it is COVID. They may return to school prior to the 10 days if they receive a negative COVID test.
Big picture

Is your child considered a close contact to someone that has COVID?

If your child is considered a close contact to someone that tested positive, your student must quarantine for 14 days from the last day of close contact with the positive person. It is suggested to have your child test after 7 days of close contact and then again on day 14 however a negative test for a close contact does not shorten the quarantine.

Students need to wear Appropriate gear for the weather

Students go outside daily for a 30 minute recess. In addition, students may go out with their class for periods of time for mask breaks, or outdoor learning opportunities as well as for PE. In either case students need to be prepared for the weather.

We have seen our first snowfall and this is our reminder that the temperatures are going to soon require students to have snow pants, boots, hats and gloves in addition to their jackets. Students go out in rain, snow, or sunshine and we go outside in temperatures up to 10 degrees below zero. Please make sure your students are ready!

The mask breaks students can take outside are important so please help make sure your students have all the appropriate gear.

NATIONAL SCHOOL BUS SAFETY & BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION WEEK
