Weekly Update for Douglas Staff - May 2, 2016

Teacher Appreciation Week

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! I am thankful each and every day to work with such a wonderful staff. Even more, Ryan and I are thrilled with the education and caring environment that you all provide for our children each day.

Over the past 3 years, we have made some significant changes at Douglas. We've added WIN Time, learned (more than ever) how to gather information about student learning and use that info to drive instruction, worked collaboratively to meet the needs of students through co-planning - flexible grouping - incorporation of technology, attended conferences and brought back new knowledge to move our school forward, increased our involvement in the community, provided experiences for our students through assemblies and guest speakers, developed our mission/vision/priorities, let the world know how great our school is through social media, organized and put on some fantastic family nights, implemented new curriculum (Journeys, Lucy, EM4), voluntarily participated in a book study on Responsive Classroom - then integrated ideas to build classroom and school community, revamped our Tier 1 PBIS, welcomed over a dozen new staff members, helped students learn to set goals for themselves and monitor their own progress...AND - you all are always willing to think of new ways to engage students and families - with some great learning about Assessments and Project-Based Learning to come next year.

Thank you for the positive attitudes every day and your willingness to grow and change for our kids!
