The Power of Choice

When students come to the library it is their choice what they would like to take home. Choice is such a powerful thing for young children. It allows them to have control over what they read and in turn they are more motivated to read. I offer guidance and recommendations, but, ultimately it is up to them to decide what book they want. The only time a student's choices are limited are when they are checking out books during their Reading Focus Group time. At this time, they focus on choosing a "Good Fit" book in order to make sure the book is going to be appropriate for their reading level. You will get a small window into your child's reading interests based on their library selections. Enjoy!
