~Canandaigua Primary-Elementary School~

April 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I hope that you had a wonderful and relaxing spring break! Although the weather doesn't feel very spring-like, all of the hustle and bustle here at the Primary-Elementary is a sure sign that we are well into the final phase of our school year. In the past few weeks, we've hosted a school-wide Literacy Night, a Music in Our Schools concert, biography museums at grade 5, Insect Night at grade 2 and several class plays. We always love welcoming families into school as we celebrate our learning, and I thank you for taking the time to be engaged in the learning process.

Another way that families are typically engaged in the learning process is through homework. Our School Improvement Planning Team (SIPT) is examining our K-5 homework practices and policies. The recommendations from SIPT will be brought forth to a K-12 team. We welcome your input. If you have concerns, questions, or beliefs about homework that you would like to share, please send them to so that the parent representatives on our School Improvement Planning Team can advocate for families.

Our Primary-Elementary parking lot is a busy place and we need all parents to help keep it a safe place for both children and adults. We continue to work with the Canandaigua City Police Department to ensure that we are implementing procedures that help everyone adhere to basic traffic rules. We have had some recent "close calls" so we are reminding everyone of the following-

  • All lanes are ONE WAY only... please follow the arrows to ensure that you are traveling in the correct direction
  • Please be mindful of the fact that there are many people moving in our parking lots throughout the day... move slowly, adhere to crosswalks and traffic cones, and be extra alert.

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in helping to make the parking lot a safe place for everyone!

We are continuing our process of registration for both kindergarten and UPK (Universal Pre-Kindergarten). Children eligible for kindergarten must be 5 years of age on or before December 1st. To be eligible for UPK, a child must be 4 years of age on or before December 1st. If you have child that will be eligible for either kindergarten or UPK in the fall of 2016, please contact Terre Aronson in the UPK/K/1 office at 396-3932.
